Week 6 Waiver Wire: 5 Must Add Options

The Week 6 Waiver Wire has options that can help you in the short or long term. With injuries, bye week and Covid causing all kinds of dilemmas, churning out the backend of your roster is key.  Heading into Week 6,

Chase Claypool and Alexander Mattison lead the way as priority adds. Who else made the cut?

Chase Claypool – Rostered in 17% of Yahoo Leagues

The Steelers Chase Claypool had a monster performance against the Philadelphia Eagles catching 7 of his 11 targets for 110 yards and 4 total TDs. While nobody expected the 4 TD performance, Claypool was gaining traction in this offense. He had seen an increase in targets through the Steelers 4 games.

Now for some cold water on the Claypool optimism. The Diontae Johnson injuries have opened the door for someone to step into production. Johnson had seen 23 targets through the first 2 weeks and was exceeding the expectations of even the biggest Johnson Stan. Claypool would likely return to a 3rd or 4th option in this offense if Johnson can get healthy. Although, based on his 3 targets through 2 games it doesn’t seem likely that will happen.

While I am definitely adding Claypool anywhere he is available, I would advise against blowing all of your FAAB to do so. The return of Johnson could muddy the waters in Pittsburgh.

While I like him, there are a couple other options at WR who have a more guaranteed volume locked in on a weekly basis that have a similar ceiling.

Tee Higgins – Rostered in 53% of Yahoo Leagues

One of the players I would be adding over Claypool is Tee Higgins. The Bengals WR will continue to be featured until he is rostered in more leagues. Even in a game where Joe Burrow struggled and the Bengals offense could only muster 3 points, Higgins was productive. He caught 4 of his 8 targets for 62 yards. His targets and yards led all Bengals pass catches.

Going forward, Higgins will continue to be a featured part of this Bengals passing game as the 1B to Tyler Boyd’s 1A. There should also be better days ahead for QB Joe Burrow who had 3 straight 300 yard passing games coming into this contest. Higgins should be a huge part of that production and remains a player to roster in all leagues.

Other Options – Henry Ruggs, Greg Ward Jr., or Brandin Cooks

Derek Carr – Rostered in 21% of Yahoo Leagues

If you need to replace Dak Prescott or are looking for a long term option at QB, Derek Carr is the player you should be targeting. The Raiders QB just lit up the Kansas City Chiefs for 347 yards and 3 TDs. It was his second straight game eclipsing the 300 yard mark. It was also the 4th straight contest where Carr threw multiple TDs. A season ago, Carr had multiple TDs in only 6 games.

There is one issue with Carr, the Raiders have a Week 6 bye. This means you will need to find someone for Week 6. The good news is he likely will be avoided by many of your league mates, ideally requiring less FAAB or the top waiver priority.

If you need a Week 6 QB specifically, Justin Herbert, Kirk Cousins and Ryan Tannehill offer a ton of appeal.

Other Options – Justin Herbert, Kirk Cousins, or Jared Goff

Alexander Mattison – Rostered in 41% of Yahoo Leagues

Alexander Mattison showed on Sunday Night why he needs to be rostered in every fantasy football league. When elevated to the starting RB in this offense Mattison has top 5 potential. He carried the ball 20 times for 112 yards in place of Dalvin Cook who injured his groin against the Seahawks.

The Vikings are home this week to face the Atlanta Falcons and then have their bye week. This means it is highly likely that Mattison gets the start. Based upon the expected volume in this matchup there are very few RBs that I would prefer to Mattison.

Coming out of the bye, Cook should be fine and back into his normal workload. But he is a RB that has missed time in the past and has had very minor injuries each of the past three weeks. Mattison has league winning upside if he were to get starters volume each week. Add him now if you need help at RB.

Damien Harris – Rostered in 54% of Yahoo Leagues

With the Patriots game against the Broncos getting rescheduled, it’s very likely many in your league forgot how good Damien Harris looked against the Kansas City Chiefs. This performance came with Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham under center. In this contest he gained 100 yards on 17 carries.

When Cam Newton is back under center, this offense should improve and give Harris carries around the goal line. Now, it is very unlikely he sees any work in the passing game sharing a backfield with James White and Rex Burkhead. So those in PPR leagues may be better suited targeting other options. That said, the volume should be there with Sony Michel on IR. Add Harris this week if you need help at RB.

Other Options – Chase Edmonds, Jamaal Williams, Devontae Booker

Good luck on this weeks Waiver Wire!
