NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 15

Welcome to Week Fifteen of season seven of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series!  Last week was a tough one, with us only hitting on one of our picks.  While our pick of the week hit with the Packers, we were completely shocked by the Broncos upset and just as surprised by the Patriots losing two games in a row in December.  The strange 2019 season continues for only a few more weeks.  Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom or hit me up on twitter!

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

We had some great division matchups last week.  The Bengals and Browns game was decided by only eight points.  The Jets barely held off the Dolphins, with a last second field goal and the Giants and Eagles went to overtime before a winner could be decided.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Chicago at Green Bay
  • Houston at Tennessee
  • Denver at Kansas City
  • Philadelphia at Washington

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

While the Sunday night game wasn’t exactly a nail bitter, the Thursday night game was decided by only a touchdown and the Monday night game was an overtime thriller in Philly.  These games continue to be the best part about the 2019 season. Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below marquee games:

  • New York Jets at Baltimore
  • Buffalo at Pittsburgh
  • Indianapolis at New Orleans

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

An interesting tidbit about the six division matchups last weekend is that every game was won by the home team.  On top of that, all three prime time games last weekend were also won by the home team.  Home field advantage matters.  Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  •  New England at Cincinnati
  • Tampa Bay at Detroit
  • Philadelphia at Washington
  • Seattle at Carolina
  • Cleveland at Arizona
  • Minnesota at Los Angeles Chargers
  • Los Angeles Rams at Dallas

Step 4 – Make your pick!

My pick of the week is:

  • San Francisco 49ers over the Atlanta Falcons

The 49ers are one of the best teams in the league, and while the Falcons have been playing better as of late, with this game taking place all the way in California I think the travel with be too much for the struggling Falcons.  While I don’t expect I blowout, I do expect a 49ers victory which is all we need.

Other options I like this week:

  • New York Giants over the Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are starting to run out of players, they have had to stay in New York for the past week after playing the Jets and their top two wide receivers are hurt.  While the Giants are not a good team, destiny wants Eli Manning to finish his career with a .500 record, and to do that he needs to win this Sunday.

  • New England Patriots over the Cincinnati Bengals

How often do the Patriots lose three games in a row this late in a season?  Ever?

Overall Record = 31-11
