NFL 2019 Week 7 Good, Bad, and Fugly

Again, I am feeling Week 7 is more like the good, better and the best, as far as defenses are concerned. So let’s just get to it.

GOOD

I really have no dog in this fight, but Earl Thomas going back to Seattle and defeating the Seahawks as a Baltimore Raven, seemed like a good story to me. Thomas himself didn’t burn up the stat line, as he finished with five total tackles. But the Ravens’ defense held the surging Seahawks and Russell Wilson to 16 points. Wilson who was riding the MVP wave, finished the game with 241 yards, one touchdown, one interception and one sack. That feels good.

BETTER

Jalen Ramsey’s back issues being all cleared up seems pretty good. I’m guessing the doctors in California are just a little better than the ones in Jacksonville?

But, it is the swag he brought to the secondary of the Rams. Granted, it was against an Atlanta Falcons team that has forgotten how good they could be…but it was also against all everything Julio Jones, who can’t help but be good.

Jones was once again the leading receiver on the Falcons, but that amounted to nine targets, six receptions and 93 yards. Yep, he held him under 100 yards.

BEST

I’m just going to say it….NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS defense. Come on…sure some of it was head coach, Adam Gase’s inability to…change it up…run the ball more…do just about anything. But a lot…nay, most of it is the complete domination that is currently the Patriots’ defense.

This is a defense that is currently: first in total yards allowed (223.1), second in passing yards allowed (148.4), second in rushing yards allowed (74.7), first in points allowed (6.9), and first in third down percentage (14.3).

Yes, the schedule has been…light; their opponents being the New York Jets, New York Giants, Washington, but they did play the Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills.

So yeah…they are the best right now. Deal with it.
