NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 13

Welcome to week thirteen of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series!  When your pick of the week wins by a score of 45-10, you have to feel pretty good about yourself.  Last week was a very successful week as we got back to our 3-0 ways.  Let’s do it again!  Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom or hit me up on twitter!

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

On Thanksgiving Thursday, we got to watch three division matchups, two of which were decided by eight points or less.  Then on Sunday, we saw the Cleveland Browns upset the Bengals and saw the suddenly explosive Giants almost knock off the defending Super Bowl Champs.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Indianapolis Colts at Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins
  • Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders
  • San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks
  • Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

Of the five prime time games last week, three were decided by only one score.  While none were major upsets, that doesn’t mean you won’t see any in week thirteen.  Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below marquee games:

  • New Orleans Saints at Dallas Cowboys
  • Los Angeles Chargers at Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

Last week in this series we warned you of two games to avoid due to the favorites being on the road.  We were concerned about the Jaguars playing in Buffalo and we were worried about the Steelers playing in Denver.  One week later and both the Jaguars and Steelers have another notch in the loss column.  Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons
  • Chicago Bears at New York Giants
  • Denver Broncos at Cincinnati Bengals
  • Los Angeles Rams at Detroit Lions

Step 4 – Make your pick!

My pick of the week is:

  • Green Bay Packers over the Arizona Cardinals

While the Packers have been having a rough go as of late, the Cardinals are not a very good team.  I expect Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to take full advantage trying to hold on to whatever very slim playoff hopes they still believe they have.

Other options I like this week:

  • Houston Texans over the Cleveland Browns

While the Browns have been doing well lately, the Texans have simply been better.  With this game taking place in Houston I expect a close one, but I also expect the Texans to come out on top at the end of the day.

  • Tennessee Titans over the New York Jets

The Titans have been very up and down this season, whereas the Jets seem to be getting worse week by week.  With last week being a bad Titans team, odds are that they flip flop back to a good team this week to take advantage against a bad Jets opponent.

Overall record: 28-8

Last week record: 3-0
