Daily Fantasy MMA has arrived! UFC 182: Jones vs Cormier was our first taste of Daily Fantasy MMA on Draftkings, and it appeared to be a success. I can say that for me, it made the fights MUCH more enjoyable, and I’ve already got my lineups submitted and ready for the next event which is this Sunday, January 18th. UFC Fight Night 59: McGregor vs. Siver has received plenty of hype and is shaping up to be a great night of fights. However there are some things to consider if you plan on jumping into some contests on Draftkings this weekend. Of course you need to familiarize yourself with the scoring systems, and check the vegas odds, but there is much more strategy involved than just that. Here are some personal takes on how to approach lineup building.
The first thing I noticed when looking at the fighter salaries is how much harder it will be to fill out a viable lineup, as Draftkings tightened up the cap this time around. The fighter that most will want to roster is Conor McGregor. He is the biggest favorite of the night taking on the 36 year old veteran Dennis Siver. However rostering McGregor this week and trying to fill out the rest of your roster with favorable fighters is going to be tough. If you roster McGregor you almost have to also have his opponent Siver. I’m not a fan of this strategy as I feel it limits your upside, especially in GPPs. Instead there are several lower priced fighter that i think are in good spots on this card.
Just below McGregor is Uriah Hall, who is the second biggest favorite of the night. He will be facing his second fill in opponent in Ron Stallings. Hall should be able to take care of stallings pretty easily, so he is a good play if you can fit him in. In what is shaping up to be the fight of the night, Ben Henderson takes on Donald Cerrone in their 3rd fight. This fight could really go either way, but Henderson is my gut call pick here, and has a few things going for him. First is that this will be Cerrone’s sixth fight in a calendar year. He has also lost in both fights with henderson. I think Cerrone’s body finally breaks down a bit here. That being said both of these fighters are at a great price and while it might limit your upside a bit, you could realistically roster both fighters and feel ok about it.
Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game
Other fighter to consider for your Draftkings MMA lineup are Chris Wade, John Case, John Howard and Cathal Pendred. While a few of these guys might be the underdog in the fight, those are the chances you have to take due to the salary cap, and are keys to taking down big tournaments. If you are new to either MMA or Daily Fantasy Sports, but are a fan of either or both, I HIGHLY recommend you give this a shot, as it has turned into one of my favorite fantasy sports, after just one event.
