NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 16

Welcome to Week Sixteen of season seven of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series!  Last week, we went 2-1 as our strategy of picking against the Dolphins and Bengals, continues to work well for us.  That being said, we did miss on the 49ers who somehow lost to the Falcons ,in San Francisco.  The strange 2019 season continues for only two more weeks.  Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom or hit me up on Twitter!

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

While there were no division upsets last week, the Tennessee-Houston game was a close one and the Redskins for a moment, looked like they were going to upset the Eagles in front of the Washington faithful.  Now comes a week where half of the games are division matchups, so we should have a wild week ahead of us.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Buffalo at New England
  • Oakland at Los Angeles Chargers
  • Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco
  • Baltimore at Cleveland
  • New York Giants at Washington
  • Dallas at Philadelphia
  • Arizona at Seattle
  • Green Bay at Minnesota

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

While the prime time games last week weren’t the most exciting, don’t let it erase your memory of how crazy prime time games have been this season.  On top of that, we get a triple header on Saturday in place of the Thursday matchup.  Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below marquee games:

  • Houston at Tampa Bay
  • Buffalo at New England
  • Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco
  • Kansas City at Chicago
  • Green Bay at Minnesota

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

As we get deeper into the season, weather starts becoming a bigger factor.  Keep this in mind as favored teams head north or east, as snow could play a big factor in some of these games over the weekend.  Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Houston at Tampa Bay
  • Baltimore at Cleveland
  • New Orleans at Tennessee
  • Pittsburgh at New York Jets
  • Dallas at Philadelphia
  • Kansas City at Chicago

Step 4 – Make your pick!

My pick of the week is:

  • Indianapolis Colts over the Carolina Panthers

While the Colts were beaten down last week, this week, they play a Panthers team who is about to start a quarterback who hasn’t even taken first team reps in practice yet.  If you haven’t used the Colts this late in the season, this could be the time to use them.

Other options I like this week:

  •  Atlanta Falcons over the Jacksonville Jaguars

If the Falcons can beat the 49ers, who says they can’t beat a struggling Jaguars team, while playing in Atlanta.  This is a risky pick since Atlanta has been very unpredictable this season, but this late in the year, you need to take risks as most of the favorites are already taken.

  •  New York Jets over the Pittsburgh Steelers

Hear me out for a second.  The Jets’ last two home games: two weeks ago beating Miami by one, and back in Week 12 they beat the Raiders by 31.  While they had some rough losses lately (Bengals and Ravens come to mind), most of these lopsided losses have occurred on the road.  They have won four of their last five home games including beating the Cowboys back in week six.  It could happen!

Overall Record = 33-12
