MLB DFS: Targets for 7/18

Pitching doesn’t seem so fun for tonight’s MLB DFS slate, so we’ll need to get creative with our lineups. Keep an ear out for the newest episode of our 60 Feet 6 Inches podcast by clicking the image below.

Mike Clevinger (CLE @ SF)

Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game

Moneyline: -147

Over/Under: 8

FanDuel: $8,500/DraftKings: $9,100

Clevinger and the Indians are at AT&T Park, with the lowest run total of the night. Clevinger is my favorite streamer in season-long fantasy baseball this week, and I like him tonight for the same reasons – maybe even more. It’s a stiff price to pay on DK, but there aren’t many “safe” targets to choose from. He could go highly owned but you’ll still want exposure to him and differentiate your lineups with who you choose as your second pitcher, or a team stack.

Brad Peacock (HOU vs. SEA)

Moneyline: -190

Over/Under: 9 1/2

Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game

FanDuel: $9,200/DraftKings: $10,300

Even pricier than Clevinger, is Peacock. Bet we never thought we would see him pitch this well, let alone at these salaries. Peacock has been impressive since joining the Astros rotation in the sense that most of us didn’t have high expectations of him with Dallas Keuchel and Joe Musgrove on the DL. He’s filled in more than nicely, and is carrying a four-game winning streak into this matchup with the Mariners. Peacock’s salaries have skyrocketed, but will he make enough value to pay if off? The Astros have the bats to back him up, but he’ll need to pitch a little deeper into this game and pile on the K’s. Tonight, Peacock is probably more of a GPP target.

Gary Sanchez (NYY @ MIN)

FanDuel: $3,400 (C)/DraftKings: $4,600 (C)

If not Aaron Judge, then Sanchez. Catchers don’t often bat high in the order, and against Bartolo Colon tonight, it’s hard to resist. The Yankees will be a popular stack, as it seems Colon has lost his mojo. The move from NL to AL doesn’t seem ideal for him, but it’s ideal for those of us who want to roster against him in DFS. Sanchez currently has a four-game hitting streak to build upon, and Colon is sporting reverse splits this season and is giving up 1.71 HR/9 to RHHs. Sanchez isn’t only my favorite target at catcher, but one of my favorite targets of the night.

Luke Voit (STL @ NYM)

FanDuel: $2,600 (1B)/DraftKings: $2,700 (1B)

If Voit gets the start tonight against Rafael Montero, you may want to take a chance on it because of the salary relief. He’s not getting regular playing time with the return of Kolton Wong, but Voit put up pretty good numbers while hitting in the middle of the order. Montero’s only made a few starts this season, but has been used for long-relief as well. His last appearance just so happened to be against the Cardinals in relief. If Voit doesn’t get the start, you can look to other Cardinals’ bats against Montero and the Mets.

Whit Merrifield (KC vs. DET)

FanDuel: $3,300 (2B)/DraftKings: $3,800 (2B)

Merrifield leads off and rarely puts a zero on the board for your lineups. His salary is a small price to pay for that, especially in tonight’s game against Tiger’s southpaw, Matt Boyd. Boyd has been struggling, and the strikeouts aren’t there for him. Merrifield is a balanced hitter this season in terms of the platoon, so you should feel comfortable with him facing a RHP or LHP. If you want some kind of points out of a hitter, Merrifield doesn’t disappoint and you won’t have to pay an arm and a leg for him.

J.D. Martinez (DET @ KC)

FanDuel: $4,100 (OF)/DraftKings: $4,300 (OF)

On the other side of the Royals game, are the Tigers. Travis Wood gets the start tonight for the Royals. This will only be his second start of the season. His walk-rate is up by 2% since last season, which contributes to the slight bump in OBP for him. Wood does struggle with his control sometimes, so Martinez can take walks to get on base, or hit a pitch over the wall. Martinez is another batter who will score you fantasy points, at a higher salary point. Martinez’s splits against LHPs are more extreme this season than his career numbers. He is my favorite OF target of the evening.
