With the 2017 NFL Draft in the books Rookie Drafts have started or will be starting in the very near future. 2QB or Superflex leagues obviously value quarterbacks much more heavily thus pushing quarterbacks up draft boards. I was curious how early players Deshaun Watson, DeShone Kizer, Patrick Mahomes and others would come off the board. I was also curious what kind of value could be found because of the movement.
Along with five of my fellow fantasy football degenerates we completed a three round Superflex Rookie mock draft. Huge thanks to Jared Smola, Ben Cummins, John Bosch, Tom Corson and Rob Marino who helped me complete the draft in record time. We each made two picks per round. We used ½ point PPR scoring for the mock to give some balance between standard and PPR.

DeShone Kizer was the first quarterback off of the board thanks to yours truly. I am a huge Kizer fan and genuinely feel like he is the best quarterback in the class. If you don’t believe me just ask Josh Norris. He will be surrounded by Corey Coleman, Kenny Britt and David Njoku. They also have Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson who provided solid balance a season guy despite the Browns needing to run contests to find someone who could throw a pass. Look for Kizer to get a legit shot this season with a loaded 2018 quarterback class. If Kizer can display his 2015 skills he could earn that job going forward.

He is currently 41 on Dynasty League Football’s March ADP. Could I have waited until round two to grab Kizer? Maybe. I was afraid of getting caught in a run and ending up with Mitchell Trubisky, or worse.
Deshaun Watson was the next pick at 1.09. He is currently 29th on DLF’s ADP. Like Kizer, Watson should play early, if not week 1. With Nuk Hopkins, Will Fuller, and Lamar Miller to get the ball to Watson does not lack for weapons. I do have some questions about how his skills will transition to the pros. He made some late decisions he was able to get away with in college. He also has less than ideal form with an inconsistent base. Watson should be in the mid to late first round conversation for most QB needy teams. After the top 6 players take I would not blame you if you grabbed a QB. I personally would take O.J. Howard over any QB.
Both Trubisky (2.10) and Mahomes (2.06) came off the board in round 2. This feels like the right range for both players. Some may see Mahomes as guy who could see snaps this season and I am one of them. Psstt… Alex Smith is about to get Kapernicked again. Smith can be cut after this season and save the Chiefs 17 million for 2018. I personally would take him over Watson. I think he has some serious fantasy upside.
Nathan Peterman, Brad Kaaya, Davis Webb and Chad Kelly all went undrafted in this mock. However I could see some or all of them coming off the board in the third or fourth round range. I honestly think Kelly is the best of this group. Clearly I am not alone on this island. Check out the The Fantasy Hipsters podcast with the great Matt Waldman for some fire Kelly takes.
If you have reliable QB options or looking to take a flier late, there should be a ton of value in the late first through the middle of the second with names like Juju Smith-Schuster, David Njoku, Zay Jones and Curtis Samuel falling a few picks. Go into your rookie draft with an open mind and let that value fall. If you’re not in love with any one QB, take whomever falls of the Kizer, Mahomes, and Watson group. After those three I’m probably waiting to grab someone in round three or four.
