On Friday, Man U club manager David Moyes said defenders Smalling and Jonathan Evans are “on their way back” to fitness and appear to be set for a late fitness test ahead of the visit to St. James Park. “We’ve missed them. We want their youth & enthusiasm,” he added. Fellow defenders Rafael and Alexander Buttner as well as midfielder Antonio Valencia are also scheduled for a late fit test. Ryan Giggs will miss time with a hamstring injury picked up during Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Bayern.
