Daily Fantasy Basketball Notes 1/30

It’s a Thursday, which usually means a pretty light NBA schedule. Tonight is no exception as there are just 3 games on the docket. Some people take the day off, but really, there are no off days in DFS !! With the small slate, I tend to look at a “studs and scrubs” strategy, starting several higher priced guys and hoping to hit on a few lower priced ones.

As for tonight, the Clippers at Warriors game has the highest total on the board at 213, with Golden State a 6 point favorite.  I tend to look at the high totals with not such an extreme spread as a focus point of my roster.  On the injury front, the major one people are waiting on is whether or not Cavs big man Anderson Varajeo will suit up tonight vs. the Knicks.  Keep a follow for the latest updates.

On to the plays: (note: I use salaries from draft street)

Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game

Steph Curry, GS ($21,273)- It will be Curry vs. Melo as top banana on DFS sites tonight.  If I were to use one, I’m going with Steph.  Yes, he cooled off Tuesday night vs. Washington,  but his two previous games were 50+ point DS efforts and he’s still averaging 29 points, 9 assists, 4 boards and 2 steals over his last five.  I’m looking for the bounce back tonight in what should be a high scoring affair.

Kyrie Irving, CLE ($16,540)-  You’ll often notice a theme of mine is using as many PG as possible in a lineup.  We’ll roll with Irving and Curry tonight.   Kyrie has had between 33.5 and 37.5 DS points in five of his last six.  This doesn’t hit the value of his price tag tonight but I like his chances at a bigger game at MSG.  He will be matched up with the much slower Raymond Felton, and Irving should have no problem exploiting that.  He went for 37 and 11 vs. the Knicks in Cleveland back in December.

DeAndre Jordan, LAC ($16,044)- With Varajeo questionable, I don’t love many center options out there this evening.  I’m not too thrilled with other options like Bogut or Chandler, so I’ll go the expensive route and take rebounding machine Jordan.  Golden State may look good, as 7th best the past 15 days vs opposing centers.  But after a closer look, the quality centers have had nice outings, Pekovic went for 22 and 14, Hibbert for 14 and 13, and JJ Hickson went off for 13 and 24 (!!). With points to be had tonight, there should be plenty of missed shots and lots of boards for DeAndre to add to your roster.

Other big names with big prices: Blake Griffin ($17,927)– bit of a revenge game after getting tossed in last meeting with Golden State.  Paul George ($17,088)- Like him more than Stephenson tonight, prices are now very close ( more on this game below though)

Cheap Eats:   In order to fit in 3 or even 4 guys from above, you’ll need to find some low salary guys to balance it out.  Here are a few options:

Luis Scola ($6,576) and Danny Granger ($6,429), IND- The Pacers return home after a 5 game West Coast trip and face a Phoenix squad playing their 4th road game in 5 nights.  This one has blowout potential so both Scola and Granger can see some extended minutes.  Also CJ Watson ($4,990).

Matt Barnes, LAC ($6,707)- Barnes has been starting lately and has seen minutes usually in the mid to upper 20’s.  He’s not much of a scorer, but can contribute in other fantasy areas to accrue some DFS points.

Draymond Green ($6,709) and Harrison Barnes ($5,841)- Both role players off the Warrior bench.  I like Barnes a little more tonight, he is a pure scorer, in a game where points are to be had.  He scored 14 points in 25 minutes the one time he faced the Clips this year.  Green is more of an all around guy.  He gets his fantasy points by lightly filling up the box score across the board.

Good luck tonight !!
