It’s a foolproof strategy so far this season – target the Jacksonville Jaguars with your defenses (the Tennessee Titans get them this week). So I was off sick last week, though Pittsburgh would have been my number one pick for the week. They don’t have a strong defense, however they did manage a pick-six (and another non-TD interception), one sack and they gave up 9 points, for a solid 15 points in standard Yahoo! leagues. I also liked Detroit last week – they have a higher own percentage, but managed a pick-six of their own for 11 points after collapsing late in the game. Anyways, since I don’t really have to go over my picks from last week, let’s get into the streamers for week six.
Tennessee Titans (available in 83% of Yahoo! leagues)
The streak continues! Every team so far this year facing the Jacksonville Jaguars has scored over 10 fantasy points in standard Yahoo! leagues. As I have said before, don’t over think this. San Diego and Indianapolis don’t have strong defenses, but they still managed over 10 points. The Tennessee Titans don’t have a great defense either, but I am rolling with whoever is playing Jacksonville until it burns me. According to Yahoo! the Jaguars are giving up the 2nd most fantasy points to opposing defenses this year. This is another swish, take the shot!
Baltimore Ravens (available in 61% of Yahoo! leagues)
The Ravens get the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week which has been one of my favourite targets for streaming defenses this year. Mike Glennon has brought some life back to that offense, but it still may struggle against this strong Ravens defense. Baltimore has given up the 5th least points this year for fantasy purposes to opposing offenses. They have given up just five passing touchdowns this year, despite giving up the 6th most passing yards per game. In terms of rushing, they are giving up 3.5 yards per carry and have given up just three rushing touchdowns this year. Even though the Bucs are at home, I’m confident that this defense will travel well. On a last note here, the Ravens are tied for 10th in overall fantasy points this year.
San Diego Chargers (available in 30% of Yahoo! leagues)
Okay, this one is a little bit high owned but the match-up is excellent nonetheless. The Oakland Raiders have been another one of my targets for streaming, and the San Diego Chargers have actually been playing decent defense. According to Yahoo! they have given up the least amount of points against for fantasy purposes (63 in five games). They aren’t great against the run, giving up the 10th most yards per carry. A positive to that negative is that they have only given up two rushing touchdowns this season. They are also tied for 6th in sacks this year and they are tied for 2nd in fumble recoveries. On a final note, Oakland is giving up the 6th most fantasy points to opposing defenses this year. They do have to travel to Oakland, but they aren’t travelling across the country or time zones, so I’m not worried.
If none of these options are available, I like the Buffalo Bills this week at home – they lead the league in sacks with 17 and are 3rd in interceptions with six. Tom Brady is not the same player on the road as he is at home. They have allowed just 75 points so far in five games, which is 3rd best in the league. Buffalo is available in just 32% of Yahoo! leagues, but I believe they have a lot of upside this week with New England coming to town.
A couple of other great match-ups that I like are Denver (playing the Jets in New York – that team is a dumpster fire) who are available in 22% of Yahoo! leagues, and I like the Detroit Lions who play in Minnesota this week (available in 19% of leagues and my starting defense in two leagues) who will force Teddy Bridgewater to throw the ball with a strong run defense.
