Who’s the 1.02 in Upcoming Dynasty Rookie Drafts?

Georgia Nick Chubb

With dynasty rookie drafts rapidly approaching, three names firmly positioned themselves in the conversation for the 1.02. Nick Chubb, Ronald Jones and Derrius Guice have the potential to be stars at the next level. What should fantasy owners expect from these guys when they take the field on Sunday’s?

Nick Chubb | Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns selected Nick Chubb with the third pick of the second round. This move may confuse some fantasy owners but if you dig a little deeper, its one that makes a ton of sense. While they signed Carlos Hyde to a 3 year deal this off-season, they can get out of the deal after this season and it will only cost them $2.3 million in dead money per Spotrac.com.

Chubb is incredibly talented but has dealt with injuries throughout his college career but played 28 games over his final two seasons. He rushed for 2,475 and 24 touchdowns over that span.

He has a 90th percentile speed and burst score per Playerprofiler.com. Chubb is an incredible athlete. They have his best comp as Jonathan Stewart, which if you remember his early career really is a compliment.

I wouldn’t expect a breakout season from Chubb in year one but he should contribute in year one and take over in year two and beyond. He should be in the conversation for an early to mid first round pick in upcoming rookie drafts.

Ronald Jones | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Now this is a pick. Ronald Jones is an explosive RB that can contribute on all three downs. Despite dealing with a mangled offensive line, Jones was able to run for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns on 261 carries in 2017. This on the heels of 1082 and 12 touchdown season on 177 carries.

The Sparq score community are not fans of Jones, who’s 40 yard dash and speed score were abysmal. Although his college dominator rating per Playerprofiler.com is in the 74th percentile, at 33.4%. Anything over 40% is considered excellent.  Jones is clearly an impressive prospect.

Jones should have the opportunity to impact in year one and become someone fantasy owners will covet this season. He will be in the conversations with Rashaad Penny, Nick Chubb and others for the 1.02.

Derrius Guice | Washington Redskins

The free fall for Derrius Guice came to an end when the Washington Redskins selected him at pick 27 of round 2 and pick 59 overall. The very talented RB fell farther than many expected due to issues in the pre-draft process with teams viewing him as high maintenance and having maturity concerns.

That said, Guice fell to a spot where he can be a star. Samaje Perine really underwhelmed in his rookie campaign. Robert Kelly was a useful fantasy option but isn’t a stellar athlete and needs a ton of touches be useful.

Per playerprofiler.com, Guice’s best comp is Ezekiel Elliott. He has a 91st percentile speed score and 80th percentile 40-yard dash. The athleticism and shake is very much there for Guice.

If Guice can figure it out at the next level and get his head screwed on straight, he could be a star at the next level. He will likely the 1.02 in many rookie drafts and almost assuredly will be gone by 1.04 or 1.05.

For me, Rashaad Penny is my RB2 in this class who I wrote about on Friday. He is followed by Ronald Jones, Nick Chubb and then Derrius Guice. They are all very close for me and my official rankings will hit Fake Pigskin very soon.
