MLB DFS: Targets for 3/30/18

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The baseball season has finally started, which means we can get back to the fun that is: MLB DFS lineups! Yesterday, it was great to have Opening Day really feel like, Opening Day. For DFS tonight, we’ll be working with a main slate of nine games, on both FanDuel and DraftKings, that start at 7:07 PM EST

Pitchers:

Alex Wood (LAD vs. SFG)

Moneyline: -164

Over/Under: 7 1/2

FanDuel: $8,400/DraftKings: $10,400

Wood really turned heads last season in May, with back-to-back, double-digit strikeout starts. From 2016 to 2017, his ERA dropped from 3.73 to 2.72, with a nice drop in his favor for BB/9. Wood’s K/9 decreased, but it’s still darn near one strikeout per inning. The problem with rostering him on FD is the quality start points. The Dodgers have pulled their starters early in the past, and can surely do it tonight with this being Wood’s first start of the season. But, it’s tough to not have exposure to him on FD because of his price. If he continues his success, Wood’s price will rise and we’ll miss out on the upside.

Kyle Hendricks (CHC @ MIA)

Moneyline: -215

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $8,200/DraftKings: $9,900

Hendricks doesn’t dazzle you, but he can do just well enough to get the job done. Considering park factor, Marlins Park is a favorable pitching situation. On the hitting side, they got rid of their entire outfield this offseason, and also don’t have catcher, J.T. Realmuto. The Marlins’ starting lineup has six right-handed batters (RHB). Hendricks has a career wOBA of .260 against RHB. BB/9 against RHB is at 1.73, which is almost one point less than LHB. His K/9 is almost the same against either handedness. Hendricks should be able to keep the Marlins bats quiet tonight, and Vegas likes them best for the win tonight.

Nick Pivetta (PHI @ ATL)

Moneyline: -110 (even)

Over/Under: 9

FanDuel: $6,300/DraftKings: $6,100

Pivetta has some serious upside with his prices on both FD and DK. Don’t pay attention to his ERA from 2017. He had some blow up games last season, and the Phillies would be more inclined to let a pitcher “take one for the team,” since they weren’t in playoff contention. Pivetta’s upside lies in his strikeouts. He averaged a little over a strikeout per inning, with a K/9 of 9.47. This is a new season, and the Phillies have a sneaky batting lineup that I think can do well and give him run support. Pivetta makes for a great GPP play on both sites that you’ll want to have some exposure to.

Other pitchers to target:

Masahiro Tanaka (NYY @ TOR) FanDuel: $8,700/DraftKings: $9,400 – FD or DK

David Price (BOS @ TBR) FanDuel: $8,500/DraftKings: $10,100 – FD
