Fantasy Baseball: Early Points Starting Pitcher Rankings

Butch Dill/USA Today Sports

The key to the points starting pitcher rankings is that innings win the day and sometimes that can even come in the face of worse performance. It is the reason talented pitchers such as Lance McCullers fall down points rakings while less talented but more reliable guys find themselves higher than you may think their talent deserves. As always these rankings and tiers should be adjusted based on your leagues scoring and the nuances that brings to how each league values different guys. The scoring I have used here is 3 points per innings pitched, 4 points per win, -1 for a loss, 1 for a strikeout, -1 for a walk or a hit, -2 for an earned run and 5 for a save.

Yu Darvish was the biggest name pitcher out there and he signed for the Cubs earlier this week but the reason free agent pitchers don’t get the knock that hitters get is that there are more pitching requirements in the league than anything else so I believe these guys will get signed sooner rather than later. As we get closer to the season you will see the likes of Arrieta beginning to drop down rankings but we are not there yet.

As always eligibility is determined by ESPN hence the SP & DH eligibility of Ohtani!
