NBA DFS: Targets for 1/19

Jared Wade of 8 Points, 9 Seconds

We have a smaller slate of games for our NBA DFS pickings. It’s just seven games, but it makes lineup construction a easier for the casual player. There isn’t too much to pay up for, so don’t be tempted to use up all your salary. If you like your lineup, roll with it! Spending all of your salary doesn’t equal winnings.

We also have a DFS account on Twitter, so be sure to give it a follow!

The targets:

Darren Collison (IND @ LAL)

FanDuel: $5,300 (PG)/DraftKings: $5,600 (PG)

Collison has done well for his price this season. While his price is slowly creeping up again, Collison is usually a safe play. You don’t want to get too cute, and this is a target that can you can rely on to make value. He can get your 25 fantasy points more times than not. The Lakers play at a faster pace, and they also turnover the ball a bunch. If Collison can get a few steals tonight, that can really help him exceed the expected value that we want.

DeMar DeRozan (TOR vs. SAS)

FanDuel: $8,400 (SG)/DraftKings: $8,300 (SG/SF)

When to comes to defense and their slow pace, you generally don’t want to target plays against the Spurs.  The Spurs have played their last two games on the road – both were close games, resulting in a win and a loss. It also looks like the Spurs will be without Kawhi Leonard for a while, and the spread may be a factor of that. The Raptors are the favorite tonight, at -6. With this game being in Toronto, and having the salary to spend, DeRozan could be one of the higher owned players on the night. If you’re weary on him, keep your exposure to him in your GPP lineups.

DeMarre Carroll (BKN vs. MIA)

FanDuel: $5,700 (SF)/DraftKings: $5,600 (SF/PF)

Much like Collison, Carroll has been very consistent. He doesn’t have the “wow” factor, he’s easy to overlook. On most nights, Carroll plays at least 30 minutes, and that gives him a lot of opportunities to score fantasy points. He has the ability to get you a double-double, which is nice for the extra 1 1/2 points. That little extra bump can make all the difference. Carroll also helps his cause by keeping turnovers to a minimum.

Kristaps Porzingis (NYK @ UTA)

FanDuel: $9,400 (PF)/DraftKings: $8,900 (PF/C)

Porzingis is in a similar position as DeRozan tonight. Utah isn’t an easy team to play against because of their pace. They really slow down the game, so it’ll be up to the Knicks to not waste scoring opportunities, and force ball movement when it’s in Utah’s hands. Steals and blocks really help to push Porzingis’ value to where we need it to be. The perfect example of this is his last game against the Grizzlies where he had three steals and six blocks. Porzingis’ price is a little high on FD for this matchup, so you may feel more comfortable with playing him on DK.

Other targets to consider:

Goran Dragic (MIA @ BKN)

FanDuel: $7,500 (PG)/DraftKings: $7,500 (PG)

Rodney Hood (UTA vs. NYK)

FanDuel: $5,500 (SG)/DraftKings: $5,400 (SG/SF)

Mason Plumlee (DEN vs. PHO)

FanDuel: $4,700 (C)/DraftKings: $4,400 (PF/C)

Marc Gasol (MEM vs. SAC)

FanDuel: $8,800 (C)/DraftKings: $8,000 (C)

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
