DraftKings NFL: Week 17 Declarations

CamNewton_ChristianMcCaffrey_2017_0

This marks the final DraftKings NFL regular season week, and 2017 altogether. We’ve discovered many things over this past year such as Todd Gurley is good at football, Jimmy Garoppolo may be the second coming, and I officially am fat entering 2018 after my consumption performance that’s taken place this holiday season. I would argue it’s been as impressive as Todd and Jimmy’s on field displays as of late, but it’s the holidays, and, just like Todd, I don’t have time for this shit. Let’s get to it…

Week 16 Recap

By the way, you don’t see many Todds these days, right? Especially, in professional sports. Wonder why? Great. Now, I’ll be up at night trying to answer this stupid question comparing/contrasting famous Todds to determine who wears the Todd Championship Belt cause this somehow seems important. A quick google threw back Todd Helton, Todd Blackledge, Todd Collins, and Todd Pinkston as the most notable pro athlete Todds. Based on that, Gurley seems like he clearly has the belt for the sports Todds. I think the only thing left to figure out is if Gurley, or The Hangover director, Todd Phillips holds the belt for greatest Todd of our time. One thing is for sure. This guy won’t be impressed either way…

The best thing I did last week was suggest Jared Goff’s ceiling as the highest scoring quarterback for the week. Unfortunately, I paired him with steep budget at running back selecting Zek Elliott and Christian McCaffrey who both were misses. That, and missing out on the Goff to Gurley fiesta made for so-so week 16 result. Of course, I snuck in a couple Jimmy G to Trent Taylor lineups that included Gurley to at least cash in a couple lineups.

Jimmy G to Trent finally paying off...

Jimmy G to Trent finally…

Projected Running Back Heavy Lineup

This week I’m employing the classic “run back last week’s misses” approach anticipating Elliott and McCaffrey will bounce back to their regular levels of production with both having plus match ups in week 17. Kenyan Drake also has a splendid affair in his regular season finale against a Bills defense that averages allowing over a scrumptious 29 DK points per week to running backs this season. Just two weeks ago, the Alabama product came away with 23.3 points against the same Buffalo defense.

Along with Drake, Former Texas Tech stand out Jakeem Grant is carving out a nice late season role in the Dolphin offense with 11 targets and two touchdowns in his last three games. If you watched Grant at all in his college days as a Red Raider, then you know it doesn’t take many touches for him to have highly productive statistical output with his explosive ability to make a house call at any moment. I’m sure both he and Drake would love to finish their second season strong when they play spoiler against the Bills Sunday afternoon. Here’s a convincer…

If Grant’s floor still scares you, I suggest swapping Elliott out for LeSean McCoy who should see plenty of work against an average Miami rush defense that allows the 4th highest average DK points per game to running backs this season. This makes room for DeSean Jackson who will be playing in a potential shootout in what Las Vegas projects to be the highest scoring game this week. If Jackson can’t suit up due to a bum ankle, the Buc’s third round draft pick Chris Godwin has proven capable of picking up the slack when called upon.

What I would say to fantasy owners if I were a professional athlete…

Week 17 ATS Picks

3-2 last week, 52-30-3 on the season.

Panthers +3.5: I don’t believe in Atlanta.

Cowboys -3: I’m going to assume that Dallas isn’t completely checked out, and has enough pride to beat the Eagle’s backups in what is a meaningless game for Philly.

49ers -4: At this point, betting on Jimmy G is like stealing.

Saints -6: This Dirk Koetter coming back next year thing has to be a joke, right?

Chargers -7: I’ve been saying for weeks that I believe the Bolts are one of the best 7-8 teams in the NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. To not take them to cover seven against a mediocre Raider team in a must win situation would be blasphemous. Chargers win by at least the number of Phillip River’s kids in their season finale including a defensive touchdown helping to cash my GPP lineups.

Happy New Year! Good luck in week 17! Follow me on twitter @realBobbyAdcock.
