MLB DFS: 8/25 Pitching Notes

Brian Cassella - Chicago Tribune

There are a lot of pitchers with heavier chances of their teams getting the win, so picking the right pitchers for tonight’s MLB DFS slate will be key. Keep an ear out for the newest episode of our 60 Feet 6 Inches podcast by clicking the image below.

Jose Quintana (CHC @ PHI)

Moneyline: -182

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $8,900/DraftKings: $11,600

Since joining the Cubs rotation, Quintana’s made seven starts. He’s given up more than three runs just once during that span, with just two losses. His K/9 is currently at 10.10, and tonight’s he’s facing a Phillies team that has a K-rate of 22.8% (which is good for eighth highest in MLB). The combination of hits that Quintana allows, and the potential for strikeouts makes him one of my favorite pitchers on DraftKings, even with the high price tag. The matchup is prime for Quintana and should have one of his better starts in a Cubs uniform.

J.A. Happ (TOR vs. MIN)

Moneyline: -175

Over/Under: 9 1/2

FanDuel: $7,900/DraftKings: $8,100

Happ is having a decent season so far, even after spending some time on the DL. His ERA is currently at 3.90, which is pretty good considering the increase in power and offense shown by hitters. Happ’s been picking up more strikeouts in his recent starts, and the Twins have hitters that strikeout a considerable amount, such as: Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton, Brian Dozier, and Jason Castro. While Twins’ hitters do show their homerun power, Happ hasn’t given up a homerun in his last five starts. If you’re looking for a more affordable option on both sites, consider Happ.

Adam Conley (MIA vs. SD)

Moneyline: -153

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $8,100/DraftKings: $7,900

Last start against the Mets, Conley allowed just one earned run in seven innings while striking out 11 batters. It’s a high amount of strikeouts, but he gets the start tonight against the Padres, and if he’s going to have a repeat performance, it’s against this team. Conley has been fine in favorable matchups, and this is another one that warrants exposure to. Giancarlo Stanton‘s homerun swing helps to figure Conley in for the win, which we’ll need in case he goes back to not striking out a hitter per inning. In either case, Conley is in a great spot tonight and can surely be your second pitcher on DraftKings.

Other pitchers to consider:

Zack Greinke (ARI vs. SF) FanDuel: $9,600/DraftKings: $12,600

Rick Porcello (BOS vs. BAL) FanDuel: $8,300/DraftKings: $8,600

Miguel Gonzalez (CWS vs. DET) FanDuel: $6,600/DraftKings: $6,500

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
