Collin McHugh | Houston Astros

(8/9 @ CWS)

ESPN: 33%   Yahoo: 40%

McHugh’s pitched well in his last two starts, and he gets his Week 18 start against the White Sox. He’s still available in majority of leagues, so he can be a keeper for the rest of the season for you if you have the space, or just a streamer this week. The average velocity on his four seam fastball and curveball is higher than it was at the tail end of last season. There wasn’t any reason for the Astros to rush him back, so it’s safe to assume that he’s fully healthy, which is an edge over other starters because he’s fresh for the rest of the season.

Luis Castillo | Cincinnati Reds

(8/10 SD)

ESPN: 24%   Yahoo: 33%

Castillo has pitched pretty good since entering the Reds’ rotation. It’s tough to start pitchers in Cincinnati, but Castillo gets this start against the Padres. The Padres are last in MLB in runs scored, and they are fourth from last in slugging percentage. They’re a team that doesn’t have a whole lot of offensive impact, so this is one of the better matchups that Castillo will get at home. He’s a hard thrower, with his fastball averaging 97 mph. Castillo gets a little over a K/9, and the Padres as a team strikeout the second most in MLB with a K-rate of 25.4%. If you need strikeouts and help in other stats, Castillo can help with that.

Jeremy Hellickson | Baltimore Orioles

(8/8 @ LAA)

ESPN: 19%   Yahoo: 31%

Hellickson had a great first start with the Orioles, against the Royals. For this week, he gets to pitch in Anaheim. The Angels are on a win streak going into Week 17’s weekend, but things could change come Hellickson’s turn on the mound. While with the Phillies, there was less of a chance that he could get the win during starts where he pitched well. On the Orioles, Hellickson has a better offense to back him up and get one on the board in the win category. The Orioles have a lot of tough teams left on their schedule, so this could possibly be one of the better matchups for Hellickson the rest of the way.

Jharel Cotton | Oakland Athletics

(8/9 SEA)

ESPN: 5%   Yahoo: 18%

Cotton is a streamer for very deep or AL only leagues. It’s a bit risky, but there aren’t many options right now. He’s been fine this season, and of more value as a spot starter. If you’re streaming him this week, it’s with the thought that he can add a few more innings and strikeouts to your stats. Our expectations of Cotton should be realistic, and if you’re in the running for first place in your league, you will want to study up on this matchup. He was able to get the win against the Mariners earlier in the season, but did so with just two strikeouts. The only time Cotton struck out two batters in a start was in his last one against the Angels. It’s fair to say that Cotton will pitch a fine game this week.

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
