2017 DFS FanDuel and DraftKings Are Starting Your Preseason Fantasy Fix

theresachance

Oh it is on…it is August and that means it is time for football.  And just to make sure you are in it to win it, both FanDuel and DraftKings will have preseason games for you to play.  Now FanDuel is starting early with a small two-game slate starting with the Hall of Fame game, combined with the Houston Texans v Carolina Panthers, Wednesday’s game.

If you didn’t get in on that action, don’t be dismayed there is still time for you to get in on some preseason DFS action.  (Caveat: although there are other sites, I only routine play either DraftKings or FanDuel so my words of pseudo-wisdom are applicable to those two sites) Now where were we?   Ahh, yes preseason DFS, where we all know the strategy for preseason DFS in no way resembles the strategy you will utilize when the season starts.

For starters what is said in camp reports, and by NFL beat writers means something.  Most of the beat writers, nah all of the beat writers have an active Twitter account.  Follow them and learn who is the “darling of the camps”, who is injured, and who is fighting for positions.

Which brings us to some solid advice:

Quarterbacks

  • look for teams that are carrying three quarterbacks on their depth chart
  • target their Quarterback 2 or Quarterback 3
  • example you know that the New England Patriots will NOT be playing Tom Brady in their first season game; but chances are they will be running out their number 3 quarterback Jacoby Brisset

Running Backs

  • look for teams that have a young first or second year player buried in their depth chart
  • teams with four or five running backs are usually going to have to see what they have
  • example: Houston Texans Tyler Ervin: the Houston Chronicle has called second year Ervin “one of the most impressive” players in the Texans camp.  Texans reporter John McClain (yippie ki yay)reported, “it’s obvious from watching him in the off-season program he’s more comfortable in the system.”  Ervin is fighting for number three running back duties so the Texans will need to see what they have.

Wide Receivers

  • look for a player who is young but cost their team and is just barely hanging on
  • example: Justin Hunter, Pittsburgh Steelers 34th overall pick in the 2013 draft; we all know that the Pittsburgh Steelers are loaded at the wide receiver position so they need to weed some players.  ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Hunter is “balling” in Steelers camp.

Tight Ends

  • look for pass catching tight ends in their second or third year
  • example: Seth Devalve, Cleveland Browns  second year tight end
  • Patrick Maks has reported, head coach Hue Jackson has said, ” I said this at OTAs-he’s an emerging player.  I really liked Seth coming out (of college).  He is stronger.  He is bigger.  He works hard. He studies hard.  He wants to make a contribution to our football team.”

Yes, you are going to have to pick a kicker if you are playing FanDuel and look for teams that have one kicker, because you know he is going to play.

And yes, even playing in preseason is going to require some research.  But you can do it.  You know the ‘stars’ aren’t playing in the first week of preseason.  You are on Twitter and you know who is balling out in camp and who is fighting for a position.

It’s preseason which means DFS season starts NOW.  Let’s win some $$.
