Week 12 Two Start Pitchers

The week 12 two start pitchers are the shakiest options we have had in a number of weeks. The top end talent are having questionable seasons and then even the mid-teens options are struggling to a point where every game is constant start sit debate. Jon Lester makes it to number one based on match-ups (he gets San Diego and Miami) because both Corey Kluber and Zack Greinke have at least one match-up which could be tough (@ BAL and @ COL respectively).

Notes:

  • Michael Pineda should be fine but Texas have the potential to blast balls out of the park if he makes mistake and we know he can be prone to leaving it in dangerous areas.
  • Rich Hill was all set to challenge for the top three until Thursdays 7 ER performance meant I had to exercise caution.
  • Johnny Cueto is not having a good season and I don’t think a visit to SunTrust park is going to improve his fortunes this week. He is still a top 20 pitcher and I think you have to roll with him.
  • Justin Verlander has struggled but hopefully the San Diego match-up can be a positive experience for owners.
  • Ervin Santana is starting to regress to the mean but both of these starts have the potential to be good.
  • Jake Odorizzi is must start this week because of two home match-ups and Mike Leake has two of the easiest match-ups in baseball right now.
  • Zack Wheeler benefits massively from being shifted back a day and will get two starts in pitcher leaning stadiums.
  • Brandon McCarthy and Tanner Roark are perhaps my last must start two start options in 12 team leagues because I think both starts are ones they could have success in.

  • Man it’s hard to start Gerrit Cole right now but his last start against Colorado was good and both Milwaukee and St. Louis are prone to bad days. However, the start in Mille Park means he is only a borderline option for me.
  • This whole group have one good and one rough start which is why they are borderline 12 team options but must use 14 team options:
    • If Sonny Gray can survive the Houston start he could make good against the White Sox.
    • Marco Estrada has to go to Texas which can always be tough and then he gets a Royals team who are showing signs of heating up but are still a pretty poor line-up.
    • Dylan Bundy has to face Cleveland which should be tough but I think he can have success in Tampa.
  • I am going to gamble on Mike Montgomery this week in some 12 team leagues. With San Diego and Miami match-ups I think there is a really good chance of success.
  • Julio Teheran is a 14 team only option with two home starts.
  • I think one out of Francisco Liriano, Jason Hammel and Francis Martes will be successful but because I can’t pick one for sure they all have to sit as 14 team options.
  • Matt Shoemaker left a game this week with some tightness so lets see how that plays out but he is the last guy on this list I would consider must start in 14 team leagues.
  • As for borderline in that format Chris Tillman and Jordan Zimmermann both make the cut because I think they can both have at least one good start.
