Week 11 Two Start Pitchers
-
Updated: June 9, 2017

Just when I thought the options for the week 11 two start pitchers looked bad enough it got worse with Dallas Keuchel hitting the DL. There is a major lack of top end talent in this week’s options and what there is have some really tough match-ups. I am a big believer in Stephen Strasburg so it didn’t take much to make him my number 1 this week and given the match-ups of the other studs it is a pretty clear choice. This is a week where I am going to try and find those one start guys who get to face the Braves, Padres etc and give them a whirl over some of the mid-range two start options. There are a couple of really interesting gamble options this week with struggling pitchers having nice match-ups that I think they can take advantage of. At the deep end we have Coors starts to consider and some surprisingly OK bottom of the pile options for those super deep leagues.

Tune in each week to hear the team discuss the previous week and take a look forward at what we can hope to expect in the coming week. We will be discussing waiver wire, start sit along with all the major topics surrounding the world of fantasy baseball.

Notes:
- Seeing Michael Pineda at number 2 will have a lot of people stunned but the combination of a good season so far combined with starts on the road against the Angels and A’s have me really enthusiastic.
- David Price, Yu Darvish and Rick Porcello would all be above Pineda normally but any start against the Astros right now is enough of a concern to just bump them down when someone has the match-ups of Pineda.
- Jacob deGrom is a scary proposition with these two match-ups and was it a better week for two start guys in general then he might find himself outside the top 10. I am starting him because I think he is good enough to not only survive these two starts but to make one of them good.
- John Lackey is fast running out of my happy to start list but I am going to give these two starts a whirl. The Mets and Pirates can both be hit or miss and I am going to bank at least one of them is a miss this week.
- Ervin Santana has been so good that you have to keep trotting him out there.
- I like the match-ups for Jimmy Nelson and Jason Vargas this week enough to make them must start in 12 team leagues and borderline starts in 10 teamers.
- Lance Lynn is where it gets tricky. Milwaukee and Baltimore can crush pitchers and although Lynn has generally been good this season if I have solid one start options this is where I might be drawing the line.
- Jake Odorizzi has a history for being bad on the road and both of his opponents can damage him if he isn’t on song.
- Brandon McCarthy could easily come out of this week with a great stat line but equally he could come out with two ugly ones and for that reason he is a borderline start for me.
- CC Sabathia is my big bad pitcher good week gamble. These two match-ups put Pineda second in my rankings and I really think Sabathia can have a decent level of success as well.
- Mike Leake is a similar story to Lance Lynn and arguably his ground ball style of pitching may suit a match-up with two teams who look to hit the ball high and hard but equally it could be a disaster.
- JC Ramirez and Mike Foltynewicz have one good and one bad match-up. Given that Ramirez is at home for both match-ups he is someone I would definitely start in 14 team leagues and is borderline in 12 teamers. Folty has to go to Washington and then pitch at home in the hitter friendly ball park and for that reason he is the start of the borderline 14 team starters.
- Wade Miley, Derek Holland and Mike Pelfrey are three guys I never feel comfortable starting no matter how good they have been. These match-ups are tough to call so in 14 teamers I have them borderline but if you believe in them then they could easily be ranked 5 or so spots higher among the 12 team borderline options.
- Jharel Cotton is another guy who I think can outperform his season stats with these match-ups and for that reason he is a borderline 14 team guy for me
- I will steer clear of Jerad Eickhoff and Zack Wheeler if I can this week given their match-ups. 15+ team leagues I am starting them but anything shallower and I don’t think I can do it this week.
- In terms of the cut-off in 16 team leagues I think it is Kyle Freeland who has actually be good both at home and on the road but even given he gets the Pirates and Giants I cannot put him any higher with a home start that could kill you at the back end of the schedule.
