NBA DFS: Targets for 1/20
Thank you to everyone who read my last NBA DFS article and especially to those of you for your feedback! I hope DFS has been treating you kindly since then, and we have a fun 9-game slate that I really love. There are too many players that I want to roster, and as someone who usually makes one lineup per site, I’ll probably construct two or three.
Jeff Teague (IND @ LAL)
FanDuel: $8,000 (PG)
DraftKings: $7,900 (PG)
There are several point guards that I like for tonight, but if I can fit him into my lineups, Teague is the first on my list. The Pacers are playing against the Lakers in Los Angeles. The Lakers aren’t particularly strong on defense and we’ve seen them involved in high scoring games. While the Lakers are third in the Association in points scored, with 4,815, they have given up 5,084 points, which is the most in the NBA. This should be one of the higher-paced games of the evening and Teague should lead the way for the Pacers.
James Harden (HOU vs. GSW)
FanDuel: $12,200 (SG)
DraftKings: $12,200 (PG/SG)
Harden is the most expensive player on both sites, yet, many will find a way to construct their lineups around him. While you may think that you can pay down for Anthony Davis or Kevin Durant, and other high-priced players, it’s the other players who are lower in salary who are in your lineups with Harden that will make the difference. Not much statistics for my reasoning here, but we all remember the Rockets beating the Warriors in Oakland, in double overtime. The Rockets will show up again at home tonight, and with the highest game total of the night, players in this game will be hard to fade.
Klay Thompson (GSW @ HOU)
FanDuel: $6,400 (SG)
DraftKings: $6,500 (SG)
If you want exposure to Golden State, you can look at Thompson for his price. He does heavily rely on real-life points, but with this game being high-paced, high-scoring, and extremely competitive, Thompson should have the ball enough to make value as long as his shot is falling.
Matt Barnes (SAC @ MEM)
FanDuel: $4,000 (SF)
DraftKings: $4,100 (SF/PF)
You will need value, and Barnes should be on your radar. With Rudy Gay out for the season, the Kings will need to use more players off their bench. For me, it’s hard to say which way they’ll lean. According to nbawowy, Barnes has played 577 minutes this season with Gay off the court, with Garrett Temple being the next bench player with 355 minutes. Minutes is what you want, and I like Barnes for it tonight.
Anthony Davis (NO vs. BKN)
FanDuel: $11,900 (PF)
DraftKings: $11,400 (PF/C)
If you’ve been following me since last season, you know that I mention when I roster Davis because I have a knack for playing him when he gets hurt, but that doesn’t mean I always hate him. This is a chance to differentiate your lineup and have some exposure to Davis. The Pelicans are at home, facing a Brooklyn Nets team that has not yet reached double-digits in wins for the season. What their record doesn’t show is that they are able to keep themselves close in games but just can’t hold the lead when they do have one. Davis is a GPP option because of the uncertainty of his health, and how his coach will play him. He’s gotten hurt in games, yet comes back in a blowout, which makes no sense. It’s best not to go “all in” on Davis tonight, but if he stays healthy and plays at least 35 minutes, he should be fine.
Mason Plumlee (POR @ PHI)
FanDuel: $6,300 (C)
DraftKings: $5,200 (C)
Plumlee is a player that I have a hard time getting a read on, but on a slate with so much to pay up for, paying down at center isn’t a bad idea. I prefer him on DK if I have to choose because of the price discrepancy with FD. Plumlee has at least two blocks in his last six games, which is valuable considering that he’s only scored single-digits in points in the last four games.
Also take into consideration:
Jrue Holiday (NO vs. BKN) – on FD
FanDuel: $6,500 (PG)
DraftKings: $7,200 (PG)
DeMar DeRozan (TOR @ CHA) – on DK
FanDuel: $9,300 (SG)
DraftKings: $8,200 (SG)
JaMychal Green (MEM vs. SAC) – on both sites
FanDuel: $4,600 (PF)
DraftKings: $4,500 (PF)
FanDuel: $6,200 (PF)
DraftKings: $6,100 (PF/C)
D.J. Augustin (ORL vs. MIL) – on both sites w/ Fournier & Meeks out
FanDuel: $3,500 (PG)
DraftKings: $3,300 (PG)
