Working the Wire: Moving on with A.J. Green Out

AP - Michael Ainsworth

Week 12 has fully stocked waiver wire mostly due to a rash of injuries to fantasy starters. There is help out there for those who lost A.J. Green or Alshon Jeffery the past couple weeks. There is also running back help for those who are in need. Let’s look at the names you should be adding this week.

Tyler Boyd | WR | Cincinnati Bengals
(5% owned on Yahoo)

A.J. Green left Sunday’s game very early with a torn hamstring, an injury that could potentially end his season. With Green out, it will give Tyler Boyd a big opportunity to step up and make plays. He had six catches for 54 yards and a touchdown against the Bills on Sunday. Boyd should be the reliable option for Andy Dalton in the short to intermediate passing game and gets a boost in PPR leagues.

Brandon LaFell | WR | Cincinnati Bengals
(11% owned on Yahoo)

Brandon LaFell should also see a nice boost with the absence of Green. After the injury he was targeted an impressive nine times. LaFell has had moments this season making big plays down the field for the Bengals. LaFell should take over Green’s down the field role in this offense. If you are in a league that rewards big plays or in non-PPR leagues LaFell may be the best option.

DeVante Parker | WR | Miami Dolphins
(67% owned on Yahoo)

It looks like DeVante Parker is finally rounding into form and is becoming someone owners should look at this week. He has put up back to back strong weeks getting 18 targets over that time frame. Parker has 182 yards and one touchdown over the last two weeks. This week the Dolphins are home to take a 49ers defense that can be thrown on. If you need an immediate impact add Parker this weeks.

Rishard Matthews | WR | Tennessee Titans
(70% owned on Yahoo)

Rishard Matthews is emerging as the number one target in the Titans passing game. Marcus Mariota has been on fire over the past month or so with a ton of work heading Matthews way. He has 32 targets over the last four weeks. He found the end zone four times over that period and had an impressive 122 receiving yards this week against the Colts. He can be a reliable option down the stretch.

Thomas Rawls | RB | Seattle Seahawks
(72% owned on Yahoo)

If Thomas Rawls is still available in your league he needs to be added this week. C.J. Prosise is “going to be out for a while” per coach Pete Carroll with a scapula issue. With the offense rolling, Rawls should have plenty of opportunities to produce for his owners.

Tim Hightower | RB | New Orleans Saints
(51% owned on Yahoo)

It looks like i may be Tim Hightower time again in New Orleans. Mark Ingram left Thursday’s game against the Panthers with a concussion. While there is a chance Ingram will be fine and play Sunday, the recent history of the these issues linger for a week or two. Hightower has been effective when given a full complement of work and that could be in the card the next week or two. Add him and you could find a stud to play at RB.

Chris Ivory | RB | Jacksonville Jaguars
(48% owned on Yahoo)

As a rusher Chris Ivory was underwhelming against the Lions with only 39 yards on 17 carries. However he contributed in a big way as a pass catcher gaining 75 yards on six catches. He has been productive in two of the past three games and should find ways to continue to reward those who play him. Add Ivory if you need RB help down the stretch.

Wendell Smallwood | RB | Philadelphia Eagles
(5% owned on Yahoo)

It looks like it’s Wendell Smallwood’s turn to shoulder the load behind quarterback Carson Wentz. The Eagles lost both Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles on Sunday against the Seahawks. Smallwood should get the majority of the work for the Eagles as long as the other guys are out. He has flashed at times this season and looked solid. We saw what Rob Kelley did to the Packers on Sunday night. There is a chance Smallwood can provide a similar effort in terms of yards and maybe finds the end zone.

Mike Gillislee | RB | Buffalo Bills
(25% owned on Yahoo)

There seems to be some confusion surrounding the state of LeSean McCoy’s availability this Sunday. He left the game against the Bengals very early after a thumb injury and did not return. If McCoy can’t go Mike Gillislee becomes a very intriguing start against the Jacksonville Jaguars and potentially longer. If you’re a McCoy owner he is a must add and running back needy teams look his way if you miss out on the other options.
