College Football Picks Against the Spread: Week 10, 2016
Week 10 of the college football season is already here and College Football Picks Against the Spread is heating up. The column went 4-1 in Week 9 taking the overall record to 23-19-2. Lets build on a productive and finish the season strong. This week features a massive SEC clash in Baton Rouge with the Crimson Tide facing off against LSU. A Big 10 battle in primetime, bounce back opportunity for Baylor and a show me situation for a team sitting just outside the College Football Playoff. Let’s make some picks and find some winners!
Alabama Crimson Tide -7.5 at LSU Tigers
LSU has been the ultimate roller coaster team this season. They entered 2016 with big expectations a team that could not only win the SEC but potentially win the CFB playoff. LSU came out in their first game against Wisconsin and laid a massive egg. The went on to split their first four games including a heart breaker at Auburn. The team seemed to be in full tailspin culminating with the firing of their coach Les Miles. However they have rebounded in a big way going 3-0 both on the field and against the spread under Coach O. This week they welcome the Tide to town for a massive SEC showdown that actually has the stakes many thought we would see coming into the season. The Tide have been rolling this season and look like the clear best team in the country. As much as I want to take the home team and all those points I have to side the Tide. They are playing too well on both sides of the ball. Their defense/special teams will undoubtedly find the endzone this week which will allow them to cover the touchdown plus.
Pick: Alabama -7.5
Ohio State Buckeyes -17 vs Nebraska Cornhuskers
October was not kind to the Buckeyes especially on the offensive side of the ball. The play calling has been questionable and their opponents have been able to hang around. This week Ohio State will make a statement at home against a Nebraska team that isn’t as good as their record suggests. The Buckeyes will force Tommy Armstrong into passing situations and unleash their defensive line. Expect Curtis Samuel and Mike Weber to jump start this offense with impressive performances. Take the Buckeyes with the points in a route.
Pick: Ohio State -17
Baylor Bears -7.5 vs TCU Horned Frogs
Baylor returns home after letting one slip away on the road a week ago, a game i told you take (winner!). I think they want to prove last week was the exception and not the rule for their season. The Horned Frogs are a complete mess. Gary Patterson’s defense is nowhere near the level of previous seasons and Kenny Hill is out as the starting QB for the Horned Frogs. Baylor makes a statement to the playoff committee this week and rolls at home.
Pick: Baylor -7.5
Northwestern Wildcats +6.5 vs Wisconsin Badgers
Northwestern was incredibly impressive a week ago on the road against Ohio State and had a chance to win the game. The return home to face a Wisconsin team that was talent on both sides of the ball. The Badgers have had issues with both of their quarterbacks this season and have leaned on the run game to move the ball. The Wildcats are 35th in the country against the run and should be solid again today. On offense for Northwestern has the number one running back, Justin Jackson and number one wide receiver, Austin Carr in the Big 10. They also have Clayton Thorson arguably playing better than any quarterback in the Big 10. Northwestern should keep this game close enough to not only cover the spread but have a real shot at getting the outright win.
Pick: Northwestern +6.5
Washington Huskies -17 at California Golden Bears
The University of Washington was left outside the College Football Playoff initial top four that was released on Tuesday despite having their most impressive win on the road at Utah. This week they stay on the road and will look to put it on the Bears. Cal has an abysmal defense that has issues stopping most teams. Myles Gaskin will run all over this defense and Jake Browning should have a massive day. Cal has an impressive passing game lead by Davis Webb that will try to keep pace. I think the Huskies will be too much for Cal and they will pull away late winning the game by three or more touchdowns.
Pick: Washington -17
