MLB DFS: Targets for 9/27

Red Sox David Price

Baseball season is winding down and so are our opportunities for MLB DFS. Even though playoff berths have been clinched, many teams are still playing for home-field advantage and the Wild Card spots.

Pitchers

David Price (BOS @ NYY)

Moneyline: -200

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $10,600/DraftKings: $11,100

The Red Sox are going to the playoffs, but they’re still playing for home-field advantage, so they’ll play competitively until the season ends. Price has the advantage against a Yankees lineup that starts with the left-handed bats of Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner. The Yankees are coming out of a tough series against the Blue Jays, while the Red Sox are rolling, with winning 11 games in a row and sweeping their last three series.

Max Scherzer (WAS vs. ARI)

Moneyline: -280

Over/Under: 7 1/2

FanDuel: $11,300/DraftKings: $14,200

The D-Backs offense showed up last night, but they’re facing Scherzer tonight with the Nationals being the heaviest favorite to win. There isn’t much to say here besides the obvious: the D-Backs have their offensive and pitching struggles this season, and Scherzer is very good to say the least. His salary is higher than Price’s, especially on DraftKings, where you may skip over him or only play him in GPPs.

Other pitchers to consider: Justin Verlander (DET vs. CLE), Jose De Leon (LAD @ SD), and Julio Teheran (ATL vs. PHI).

Hitters

David Ortiz

David Ortiz (1B-BOS @ NYY)

FanDuel: $4,200/DraftKings: $5,600

Big Papi against Luis Cessa tonight at Yankee Stadium is a matchup I can’t resist. Cessa’s given up at least one home run in each of his last six starts, and Ortiz definitely has that home run swing to do it against him tonight. Other Red Sox bats can be targeted tonight along with Ortiz for a stack.

Freddie Freeman (1B -ATL vs. PHI)

FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $5,100

Freeman has been fire lately, with a 28-game hitting streak and his power really coming through as the season goes on. The Braves are at home tonight and will be facing Phillies’ right-hander Jerad Eickhoff. While Eickhoff’s been pretty good for the Phillies, the Braves offense is still hot.

Corey Seager (SS-LAD @ SD)

FanDuel: $4,200/DraftKings: $5,300

By looking at Seager’s numbers this season, it’s hard to guess that he’s just a rookie. The Dodgers are in San Diego and facing Paul Clemens, where the Dodgers should be able to score some runs. His price is pretty high so I think he’ll be low-owned. If you’re looking to differentiate your lineup, this can be a way to do it.

Ryan Braun (OF-MIL @ TEX)

FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $5,000

This game has a run total of 9 1/2, which is currently the highest of the night. Although Texas is the favorite to win, that doesn’t mean you should play A.J. Griffin. Braun is in a good spot here against Griffin, who has allowed 1.59 HR/9 during his career during right-handed bats. Braun has hit 22 of his 30 home runs against right-handed pitchers, so the platoon for the home run potential is not necessary.

Other hitters to consider: Jonathan Lucroy (TEX vs. MIL), Yasmani Grandal (LAD @ SD), Miguel Cabrera (DET vs. CLE), Robinson Cano (SEA @ HOU), Rougned Odor (TEX vs. MIL), Justin Turner (LAD @ SD), Jonathan Villar (MIL @ TEX), Trea Turner (WAS vs. ARI), Carlos Beltran (TEX vs. MIL), J.D. Martinez (DET vs. CLE), and Khris Davis (OAK @ LAA).

A tidbit of what still, doesn’t seem real – Who would think that a player who we only seen for a short time, would ignite so much emotion with his passing? The loss of Jose Fernandez is especially difficult because of all of his potential, even though he was already so dominant. The thoughts of what could have been will never be seen, and the baseball world will never be the same.
