NFL Week 3: DFS Early Takes
Quarterbacks I’m considering this week in DFS include Brees, Luck, Stafford, Rivers, Cousins,Tannehill and Dak. If I’m paying up it would be Brees at home against the Falcons. Initially I thought Matt Ryan would be a good play but Julio continuously getting banged up and Ryan’s price being a little lofty are pointing me in different directions.
Luck against the Chargers at home is viable even against a solid secondary in San Diego. Luck is a bit lower than the top guys at $7600 on Draft Kings. Moncrief is probably out so that is a concern, but they still have weapons.
I am more likely to pay down to the middle tier and look at Stafford, Rivers, Cousins, or Tannehill. Abdullah is out and Green Bay’s run defense looks stout. Stafford will throw a ton and at $6800 he is very viable. He shouldn’t be to highly owned either. Rivers will probably be the highest owned QB this week. Coming off a huge game and facing a very week Colts D, expect a ton of action. Personally I am probably fading Rivers as I like Stafford more and feel losing Keenan Allen and Woodhead in back to back weeks will catch up to Rivers. I also think Gordon is the guy to own for the Chargers this week.
Cousins is due for a bounce back, he can’t be this bad in the Red Zone. Jordan Reed hasn’t been in the end zone yet this year and that will change soon. I expect 2-3 TDs and another 300 yd game. At $6400, ton of value there. Other owners are probably down on him due to recency biast, now is the time to jump on board. As for Tannehill, he gets a battered Cleveland secondary and has all his passing game weapons healthy. At 6200 on DK He is the cheapest in this tier and there are a few options you can stack with Tannehill like Landry or Parker. Foster should be out, I expect them to pass a ton in this game.
Dak Prescott playing against the Bears who will be on a short week and at home. Dak has a nice floor with his running abilities and this is probably the week Dez gets in the endzone. At $5700 the savings will help a ton at other positions.
Week 2 left the running back positions a little thin on healthy bodies but with injuries comes a little value with lower prices. As I mentioned above I love Melvin Gordon this week. Others I am considering are David Johnson, Deangelo Williams, Ezekiel Elliott, C Mike, Frank Gore, Theo Riddick, Charles Simms, Isiah Crowell, and Kenyan Drake.
In cash lineups I am not paying the big bucks for Johnson, Williams, or Elliott but the are all good leverage plays in GPPs. David Johnson is of match up proof with a very high floor, he can have a big game against anyone but I can’t pay $7700 in cash. Williams is in a good spot but again I’m not paying up. As for Zeke, 2 fumbles and a benching is going to have his ownership very low. I think they will put him right back in there this week and will be playing against a poor Chicago Bears team. He is a great GPP play.
Moving on to Melvin Gordon or as I like to call him MG3. Gordon has 3 TDs in 2 games this year after not scoring any all last year. He gets the week Colts D and is about $2000 less than top rbs on DK. Gordon is also all San Diego has left. Woodhead torn ACL and Brandon Oliver’s torn achilles leaves Gordon to play 80% or more of the snaps. He can catch the ball and they like to hand it to him inside the 10. He is my favorite play this week, I’m guessing his ownership will be high though as the spot is just too good.
There are a ton of options around the $5k mark that should get all these players ownership down a little. If Rawls is out, Christine Michael against the 49ers is enticing. Frank Gore against a weak San Diego run D is also very viable. Plus pass catching backs that should be thrown into full time roles with injuries to their back field mates Charles Simms and Theo Riddick at $4900 are great options. Draft Kings is a full PPR so I really like Simms and Riddick, both could catch 6-8 ball, add 50 or more yards rushing and have a chance to get in the endzone. Their floors are high and ceilings have been elevated. Make sure to keep an eye on Rawls and Doug Martin’s injuries before locking in Simms or Michael.
I also mentioned Isiah Crowell who has been getting the bulk of the time in Cleveland. The Browns are starting their 3rd QB in 3 weeks so expect them to lean heavily on Crowell.
Lastly watch the Miami running back situation, I think Kenyan Drake will get the bulk of the time if Foster is out. Ajayi has been miserable. Drake at $3600 is worth a watch this week.
There are a lot in play, I will stick to my favorites here. If you are paying up I love Antonio Brown, coming off a 39 yard performance and getting Philly on a short week. Look for a big bounce back and expect his ownership to be down just a tick because last weeks poor showing.
Dez is in a great spot. Looks healthy, had his most targets since week 7 of 2014 and gets a banged up Bears secondary. At $8400 this could be an explosive week for him.
Allen Robinson at $7500 is a very nice value. Another guy coming off a down week and facing Baltimore who just got shredded by Corey Coleman.
Jarvis Landry at $6600, as I mentioned above I like the Dolphins passing game this week. He is a target and catch monster making him very safe for cash, I assume he will get in the endzone at some point, probably this week. Also Devante Parker and Kenny Stills are worth a look.
Tyler Lockett, Baldwin is banged up. Lockett is only $4200 and gets the 49ers at home. You can double up Lockett with Seattle’s D and possibly get a double dip TD as well. Lockett is in play for cash and GPP if Baldwin misses.
Stefon Diggs, only $5100 but has a hard match up with Carolina. He is still in play with his lower price.
Lastly on wide receiver Marvin Jones has had double digit targets in both the 1st 2 weeks. The Packer’s run d has been stout so far, expect another 10 targets this week for Jones at $6200.
Jordan Reed all day. He will get in the endzone this week. Only problem is you will have to pay for him at $6600. Last year he had 6/96 and 8/98 against the Giants, no scores. This year he will get in.
Delanie Walker is only $5000 this week against the Raiders who have given up over 800 yards passing in 2 weeks this year. Walker is a solid play.
If you are looking to pay down I would pay attention to Dennis Pitta $3400 and Jared Cook $2900. Cook gets a Lions D that is bad against tight ends and I fully expect Rodgers to start targeting Cook more in the passing game. He doesn’t have to do much to pay off $2900. Pitta is Flacco’s best friend on the team and coming off a 9/102 game he is still only $3400. Playing either of these 2 will allow you to get to some of the expensive wide receivers.
Seattle is the highest priced but they are in the best spot. They get a turnover prone Blaine Gabbert coming to town and Seattle has a bad taste from last week. This is a prime spot if you are paying up.
Kansas City at 3200 is a nice mid-tier option. The Jets and Fitzpatrick will go to Arrowhead possibly without Brandon Marshall. Fitzpatrick will provide opportunities for the Chiefs D, they have a good chance of paying off their price.
Dallas at home getting the Bears on a short week, with Brian Hoyer probably starting are the best cheap option. At only $2500 this is where I’m looking if I need to save
