NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 2, 2016

Drew Brees and Brandin Cooks

We have eagerly awaited the return of the NFL season and now we are already entering Week 2. This week has some tasty match ups that have the bettors running to the window. After a 4-1 Week 1 your boy is ridding high handing out winners. Let’s build on Week 1 and roll with NFL Picks Against the Spread for Week 2.

New York Giants vs New Orleans Saints Over 53

This pick feels very chalky and one I might typically avoid however all the makings of a high scoring contest are there. The Saints showed last week how dynamic their offense can be especially in the air. I know they are heading on the road but I still expect a ton of Brandin Cooks, Willie Snead, and company to put up a ton of points against a Giants team while improved still has a ton of work to do. Speaking of awful defenses, the Saints are the only one challenging the Browns for the worst defense in the league. Eli Manning and Odell Beckham should connect several times throughout this game. Victor Cruz is back contributing to this offense and rookie Sterling Shepard looked like he belonged as well. I expect both of these teams to be in the 30’s and hitting the over with ease.

Pick: Over 53

Tennessee Titans +6 at Detroit Lions

This is something that may confuse some people but the Titans are the absolute right side here. They looked the better team in Week 1 but had some costly turnovers including a pick six that completely swung the game. In this game I expect the TItans to look much better against a Lions defense that has major issues especially in the secondary. This line seems 3 points too high because of the Week 1 results. The Lions offense is solid but they faced an anemic Colts defense in Week 1 and played above their heads. I expect this game to be close and likely come down to a field goal. Take the road team and the points.

Pick: Titans +6

Minnesota Vikings +3 vs Green Bay Packers

Anytime I can get a home team catching points in a prime time game It’s hard for me for me to not take it. The Vikings have a question mark under center and it sounds like Sam Bradford will be the guy for Week 2 but I still think they’re the right side. Adrian Peterson will get going this week to help out whomever is under center. Defensively the Vikings are really strong and can make plays to help their offense like they showed in Week 1. I still like the Packers a lot and think they could be one of the NFC’s best but I worry about their O line with against the Vikings pressure. It could be a long day for Aaron Rodgers and the Packer offense. Take the Vikings outright.

Pick: Vikings +3

Cincinnati Bengals +3.5 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Now this is a game I am going to be glued to. With the Ravens falling off a little bit and the playoff game last season this is the AFC North matchup that excites me most. The Steelers looked great in Week 1 on Monday night. The Bengals did enough to grab a W but it was very pretty. I think this number opened a little inflated because of it. Despite more bets coming in on the Steelers the line has moved in favor of the Bengals. This line may love to Bengals +3 which I would grab. Anything under three is probably a stay away. I expect this game to be close and for the Bengals to find a way to cover the field goal plus the hook.

Pick: Bengals +3.5

Washington Redskins vs Dallas Cowboys Under 45.5

This total was too high for me in this contest and I was happy to take the under. The Cowboys are still trying to figure out their offense with a rookie signal caller, Dak Prescott and a rookie ball carrier, Ezekiel Elliott. Prescott was the king of the short completion in Week 1 and its hard to see much changing here. The Redskins offense was a mess in Week 1 against the Steelers. I’m worried I am far too invested in Kirk Cousins from a fantasy perspective. I think both teams will try and find things they like from this game but it will be a mess offensively. I expect a ton of stalled drives and field goals. Take the under and do your best to watch another game.

Pick: Under 45.5
