2016 IDP ROOKIES (LB) RANKINGS

Myles Jack

We’re well into Training Camp now and some smoke is clearing but until we get into a couple pre-season games we’ll have a better idea on whose who with each scheme.  The top half of my rankings are guys worth targeting for some contribution this season and they shall continue to climb overall rankings, then the guys in the second half of these rankings are mainly stashes as they’re either battling depth, practice squad possibility or still need time to develop.

Here is an updated version of my IDP Rookie linebacker rankings as of 05AUG2016!

Ragland

  1. Myles Jack (JAC) already running with the 1’s and not surprised, believe!
  2. Reggie Ragland (BUFsuffered a knee injury today but hoping it’s just an MCL sprain he could fall in drafts now but that’ll be your gain
  3. DeVondre Campbell (ATL) the hype is real, Campbell is going to be a stud and there’s really no competition in ATL for tackles amongst the LB unit
  4. Darron Lee (NYJjust have to get through year one as he’ll probably be nothing more than a sub package LB, still worth picking up in the 2nd round of your rookie drafts
  5. Joshua Perry (SDC) i’m a believer he’ll replace Te’o sooner than later
  6. Antonio Morrison (IND) can have mid-season impact, love his motor and attitude Jackson isn’t getting younger neither
  7. Blake Martinez (GBP) looks like he’ll be one of the starters at ILB for GBP come opening week, opportunity is there and Blake can solidify himself as a solid LB2 for years
  8. Deion Jones (ATL) he should supplant Worrilow in nickel/sub packages, will probably get unleashed fully in 2017
  9. BJ Goodson (NYG) good stash if you can, got the skill set to play either WLB/MLB in NYG – my money is on MLB in ’17 but if the LB unit plays poorly early on I could see Goodson getting some snaps, no better way to get better than learning on the fly
  10. Jaylon Smith (DAL) i just want to believe he’s going to recover, if you where to tell me he’d guaranteed be healthy and recovered than he’ll jump near the top.  Healthy Jaylon is so good!
  11. Su’a Cravens (WAS) if Su’a plays the WILB where he can roam he’ll succeed, can get outside and play in space, that’s where i’ll be buying Cravens where i can as LB depth
  12. Leonard Floyd (CHI) Bears seem loaded at edge but Floyd can still be productive because he can drop back into coverage to help his value (not saying he’s great there but yeah) he should be able to thrive in CHI though with McPhee & Young getting after the QB.  Floyd can develop into a LB2 in big play leagues or LB3 ceiling in standard-like leagues.
  13. Kentrell Brothers (MIN) should take over Greenway’s side next season, will help against run but he’s a stash right now
  14. Jordan Jenkins (NYJ) liking the fact that Jenkins is getting every down potential in NYJ, like Floyd has some LB2 appeal in big play leagues as his ceiling but moreso LB4 in standard leagues
  15. Tyler Matakevich (PIT) solid football player, as he continues to develop he should take over for Timmons (if he ever hangs it up).
  16. Emmanuel Ogbah (CLE) going to see time at DE this season as Browns lost Bryant and are shallow at that position.  Ogbah can develop into a solid LB3 in big play leagues, could pile up tackles against the run
  17. Shilique Calhoun (OAK) dig Calhoun’s pass rushing potential in OAK, could be used how they’ll use Irvin but also could see him lining up with his hands in the dirt in sub packages to get all their pass rushers on the field.  Calhoun is a stash right now though, if you can afford too.
  18. Kevin Dodd (TEN) Dodd is a taxi squad stash, needs to start practicing though (recovering from injury) so missing time isn’t helping him but that’s what makes him a stash as he’ll more than make an impact in ’17
  19. Shaq Lawson (BUF) Lawson missing quality time too, value drops though with LB tag but I think he’ll be ok – worth it in deep leagues that reward 4+ points per sack as Lawson can develop into a LB3
  20. Joe Schobert (CLE) Schobert is a stash at best, learning new position (ILB) as his skill set fits there but is behind Davis/Kirksey could see field in some pass rushing situations
  21. Jatavis Brown (SDC) getting some run with the first team, making impressions has the ability to drop into coverage so i’m awaiting SDC to use him as a hybrid type LB/S
  22. Aaron Wallace (TEN) suffered a high ankle sprain today (05AUG) so he’s on the shelf, intriguing upside though in TEN with Dodd.  Worth a late round flier to stash.
  23. Nick Kwiatkoski (CHI) taxi squad is best if you’re targeting Nick.  Can become a quality starter in CHI but will have to wait his turn as he’ll be behind Trevathan/Freeman
  24. Scooby Wright (CLE) think as camp goes on, Wright could show flashes of his old self but i’m not banking on it – his chip on shoulder though could help him carve up some sorta role but he could see more time on special teams first.
  25. Kamalei Correra (BAL) will be pretty much just a pass rusher in BAL, probably won’t make much of an impact in ’16 but keep an eye out as Suggs/Dumervil having a hard time staying healthy so when Correra’s number is called – he could show out like Za’Darius flashed last season.  Nothing more than a LB4 though (ceiling).
  26. Josh Forrest (RAM) should be Ogletree’s backup at MLB, so that’s where his value lies pretty much as may not make much of an impact unless an injury occurs and/or Rams go sign a vet
  27. Travis Feeney (PIT) his versatility and speed has led PIT to play him inside more, needs to gain more strength to play on the edge as he’s getting slapped around in camp.  Feeney has intriguing upside but is still raw so he’s about a year away.
  28. Kyler Fackrell (GBP) can he develop into a tackling machine on the edge in GBP? could be an early down LB against the run but nothing more
  29. Nick Vigil (CIN) little interest here but from a value standpoint could find minimal snaps as a spot starter but hard to see him as nothing more than a backup.
  30. Jeremy Cash (CAR) would’ve been better had CAR kept him as a Safety but can’t have it all and with Cash moving to LB and getting the LB tag his value plummets as there’s better LB’s out there I’d rather have.

You mentioned John timu. Where do you seem him long term? Should I keep him on my roster or cut him?

Timu is worthy of a roster spot if this is a deep league (big rosters) and you an afford to sit & stash him, with addition of Trevathan & Freeman, he may not get shot again until ’17 at the earliest but if you mix in Timu with these rookie LB’s I’d put him at 14 right behind Scooby – so you won’t lose sleep if you drop him, very replaceable

Just curious if you will be doing a list like this soon for DBs? I didn’t see one posted yet.
