MLB DFS: Targets for 8/2

Red Sox David Price

It’s a full 15-game slate for MLB DFS, with a ton of pitching options as well as a Coors Field game.

Pitchers

David Price (BOS @ SEA)

Moneyline: -175

Over/Under: 8

FanDuel: $10,100/DraftKings: $9,600

Left-hander, Eduardo Rodriguez, pitched a really good game last night, and Price can surely have an excellent outing as well. He only has one start at Safeco Field, which was in 2014, where he pitched a complete game shutout with 12 strike outs. Price’s last start against the Angels was another good one too, so he should be able to hold down the Mariners and let his offense secure the win against Wade LeBlanc.

Zach Davies (MIL @ SD)

Moneyline: -115

Over/Under: 7 1/2

FanDuel: $7,900/DraftKings: $9,900

Of all the pitchers to choose from today, why Davies? He has 10 quality starts this season against teams like the Cubs, Reds, Nationals, Dodgers, and tonight’s opponent, the Padres. For his price on FanDuel, you can roster him to pay up for pricey bats, where getting the win may not be as much of a concern. He costs more than Price on DraftKings, where you could use the both of them as your starters.

Other pitchers to consider: Madison Bumgarner (SF @ PHI), Carlos Carrasco (CLE vs. MIN), Matt Shoemaker (LAA vs. OAK), and Gerrit Cole (PIT @ ATL).

Catchers

Jett Bandy (LAA vs. OAK)

FanDuel: $2,200/DraftKings: $2,700

Catcher is a position where you can pay down if you choose. Bandy should get the start against A’s southpaw, Sean Manaea. At a price where you’re not expecting too much production, the upside is there with the platoon. For the season against left-handed pitchers, Bandy’s slugging .654, has a 1.105 OPS, and .308 ISO.

Other catchers to consider: Wilson Ramos (WAS @ ARI), Evan Gattis (HOU vs. TOR), and Brian McCann (NYY @ NYM).

First base

Hanley Ramirez (BOS @ SEA)

FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $4,000

Ramirez batting against LeBlanc tonight is a target if you want to differentiate your lineup.  It’s a small sample size since being called up, but right-handed batters are faring much better against him. Ramirez should have some offensive opportunities with LeBlanc giving up a 47.5% fly ball rate to right-handed bats, with 14.3% of them resulting in home runs.

Other first basemen to consider: Joey Votto (CIN vs. STL), Ryan Zimmerman (WAS @ ARI), and Mitch Moreland (TEX @ BAL).

Second base

Jose Altuve (HOU vs. TOR)

FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $5,600

The argument can be made that Altuve is the best hitter/player in baseball. Although it is a high price to pay, what you’re getting in return is his consistent offensive production with a nice upside of the surge in his power. Tonight’s Blue Jays’ starter is R.A. Dickey, who has a tough time with keeping the ball in the park. In 22 game starts this season, he only has seven games where he hasn’t allowed a home run.

Other second basemen to consider: Dustin Pedroia (BOS @ SEA), Neil Walker (NYM vs. NYY), and Scooter Gennett (MIL @ SD).

Third base

Todd Frazier (CWS @ DET)

FanDuel: $3,800/DraftKings: $3,900

This game looks to be a high scoring one with a run total of 10. With Anibal Sanchez on the mound for the Tigers, I especially like Frazier at third base. Sanchez is another starter who has a dough time with keeping the ball in the park, by allowing 18 home runs in just 16 game starts. Right-handed batters are hitting better against him, and Frazier could certainly hit a home run or two.

Other third basemen to consider: Jefry Marte (LAA vs. OAK), Jake Lamb (ARI vs. WAS), and Nolan Arenado (COL vs. LAD).

Shortstop

Trea Turner (WAS @ ARI)

FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $3,400

This is a position where you can easily make the case for several other players, but the target looks to be Turner, who should be batting leadoff against southpaw, Robbie Ray tonight. He’s been putting up great numbers since being called up which makes us feel like he should have been here sooner. With Daniel Murphy being a little banged up, and other starters getting pulled early from games when they get out of hand, Turner should stay in the game and see all of his at-bat opportunities.

Other shortstops to consider: Carlos Correa (HOU vs. TOR), Trevor Story (COL vs. LAD), and Corey Seager (LAD @ COL).

Outfield

Josh Reddick (LAD @ COL)

FanDuel: $3,900/DraftKings: $4,700

Assuming Reddick is in the starting lineup against Jon Gray at Coors Field, I really like him for the obvious park shift and platoon. Reddick  is a better hitter with platoon and we have that in his favor tonight. With price considered, he’s a more affordable target at the position if you want Coors Field exposure.

Matt Kemp (ATL vs. PIT)

FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $3,900

Sticking with another outfielder who could be making their debut with their new team (a little bias on my part since his new team is my favorite team), Kemp could bat cleanup after Freddie Freeman. Admittedly, it’s a not a good matchup for Kemp against Gerrit Cole, but if you want a share in narrative street for a GPP lineup, you can give it a shot.

Other outfielders to consider: Tyler Naquin (CLE vs. MIN), Jayson Werth (WAS @ ARI), Mike Trout (LAA vs. OAK), Charlie Blackmon (COL vs. LAD), Mookie Betts (BOS @ SEA), Giancarlo Stanton (MIA @ CHC), Carlos Beltran (TEX @ BAL), and George Springer (HOU vs. TOR).
