MLB DFS: Targets for 7/18
It’s a nice 11-game slate for MLB DFS, with lots of pitching and hitting to choose from!
Jose Fernandez (MIA @ PHI)
FanDuel: $12,000/DraftKings: $13,800
Fernandez is the top pitching target tonight against the Phillies. The Phillies strike out 21.6% of the time, while being second to last in the league in taking walks. With Fernandez being one of the more dominant pitchers this season, and the Phillies having one of the worst offenses, it’ll be hard not to roster him, even if you want Coors Field bats.
Corey Kluber (CLE @ KC)
FanDuel: $10,600/DraftKings: $11,900
The Royals offense has been struggling, and Kluber is set up for a nice match up tonight as well. The Royals are the worst in the league in taking walks and are in the bottom five in runs scored. Overnight, the moneyline for Kluber and the Indians increased by 10, which is something to keep an eye out for during the day.
James McCann (DET vs. MIN)
FanDuel: $2,200/DraftKings: $2,200
Besides the Coors Field Stack, this game will be popular as well with a run total of 10. If you need salary relief, McCann can be a target for you. The Tigers will be facing Ricky Nolasco, who is not good against either handedness of batters. McCann won’t have the platoon, but may not matter with Nolasco’s splits for this season:
L vs. R
OBP: .305 vs. .344
SLG: .438 vs. .513
wOBA: .317 vs. .360
BABIP: .306 vs. .352
HR/9: 0.85 vs. 1.62
Chris Davis (BAL @ NYY)
FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $4,300
For the price against Ivan Nova in Yankee Stadium, Davis is one of a few first basemen you can roster without paying top dollar. Nova is prone to giving up home runs and the Orioles can surely do that with their lineup. Besides liking the matchup for the platoon and ball park factor, Nova for the season against left-handed bats is giving up a slugging percentage of .547, .371 wOBA, and 1.59 HR/9 at home.
D.J. LeMahieu (COL vs. TB)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $5,000
Many will roster Logan Forsythe when looking for a second basemen from the Coors Field game, so LeMahieu is a nice pivot even though the price savings is minimal on FanDuel. Rays pitcher, Drew Smyly, has been struggling since May, which makes other Rockies bats rosterable with or without the platoon.
Evan Longoria (TB @ COL)
FanDuel: $4,300/DraftKings: $5,000
Longoria is healthy and is having himself a season! It’s the same story with Longoria as usual when it comes to rostering Rays right-handed bats against left-handed pitchers. Tonight’s even more of a treat because this game is at Coors Field, against southpaw, Tyler Anderson.
Eduardo Nunez (MIN @ DET)
FanDuel: $3,700/DraftKings: $5,000
If you’re looking to fade the Coors Field game at shortstop, Nunez is a quality target. The Twins will be facing Matt Boyd, giving Nunez the platoon. Another reason to like Nunez is for his speed. With so many hitters to target, a stolen base or two may be the difference in terms of fantasy points.
Nelson Cruz (SEA vs. CWS)
FanDuel: $3,000/DraftKings: $4,400
Cruz smashes left-handed pitching, but he’s facing Chris Sale tonight. Sale’s last outing against the Braves was not what we expected, and if there’s a hitter in the Mariners’ lineup that can hit a home run off of him, it’s Cruz. Sale is giving up more home runs and striking out less batters at just 8.86 K/9 this season versus 11.82 in 2015. Cruz’s discounted price should be taken into consideration, especially with all of the high-priced bats.
Stephen Piscotty (STL vs. SD)
FanDuel: $3,600/DraftKings: $5,200
Piscotty is pretty high in terms of pricing today, but could be a good way to differentiate your lineup with all of the obvious targets and stacks. The Cardinals are at home, with the Padres sending southpaw, Christian Friedrich to the mound. Piscotty has been one of the more consistent bats in the Cardinals lineup, and had a seven-game hitting streak before yesterday’s game.
Other outfielders to consider: Ryan Raburn (COL vs. TB), Carlos Gonzalez (COL vs. TB), Steven Souza (TB @ COL), Giancarlo Stanton (MIA @ PHI), Jay Bruce (CIN vs. ATL), Cameron Maybin (DET vs. MIN), Franklin Gutierrez (SEA vs. CWS), and Nomar Mazara (TEX @ LAA).
