MLB DFS: Targets for 6/13

Diamondbacks Zack Greinke

For those who like smaller slates to help narrow down your targets, that’s what we have for MLB DFS today.

Pitchers

Zack Greinke (ARI vs. LAD)

Moneyline: -175

Over/Under: 8

FanDuel: $10,500/DraftKings: $11,200

Greinke is a much pitcher as of late than he was to start the season. He hasn’t allowed an earned run yet this month in 16 innings with just two walks. To name a few statistics, in May and June, Greinke’s walk rate, strikeout rate, and WHIP are trending in the right direction for him. The Dodgers are having a tough time scoring runs and Greinke should be able to hold them down, even with this game being at Chase Field.

Carlos Carrasco (CLE @ KC)

Moneyline: -135

Over/Under: 8

FanDuel: $9,400/DraftKings: $10,800

Carrasco’s only had a couple of starts since coming off the disabled list and this time he’ll be facing the Royals on the road. Over the last month, the Royals are last in the league by walking only 5.6% of the time. On the road against this season, Carrasco’s only given up a .195 BABIP, .219 wOBA, with 8.00 K/BB. As a team this season, the Royals aren’t the hitters that we have seen in the past.

Other pitchers to consider: Colin Rea (SD vs. MIA), and Max Scherzer (WAS vs. CHC).

Catchers

Jonathan Lucroy (MIL @ SF)

FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $3,900

Lucroy and the Brewers are facing Matt Cain tonight, who is making his first start off the disabled list. Lucroy has had success against Cain in the past and has hit well at AT&T Park for his career. Even with this game being at a pitcher’s park, Lucroy is able to make contact which is what you need for this ball park. For his career against right-handed pitchers, Lucroy has a .422 slugging percentage, .334 wOBA, and makes hard contact 30.9% of the time.

Derek Norris

FanDuel: $2,700/DraftKings: $3,700

Norris and the Padres are facing Wei-Yin Chen of the Marlins. Chen has been struggling and the Padres offense has shown that they’re able to score runs. If you want to save some salary at the position, you can look to Norris if he gets the start. We have the platoon here and that’s what you need when rostering Norris, who has extremely better numbers against southpaws.

Other catchers to consider: Victor Martinez (DET @ CWS), and Robinson Chirinos (TEX @ OAK).

First base

Wil Myers (SD vs. MIA)

FanDuel: $4,200/DraftKings: $5,100

Myers is the second most expensive at the position on FanDuel and tied with being the most expensive on DraftKings with Paul Goldschmidt, which makes him a GPP play for me. He’s been producing a ton of fantasy points over the last two weeks.

Edwin Encarnacion (TOR vs. PHI)

FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $4,500

Another high-priced option at the position is Encarnacion against the Phillies and Jerad Eickhoff. Blue Jays bats will be popular tonight with the game being at Roger’s Centre and with a game total of nine. Encarnacion has hit three home runs in his last three games, and if you believe in streaks, now would be a good time to roster him.

Other first basemen to consider: Joey Votto (CIN @ ATL), and Freddie Freeman (ATL vs. CIN).

Second base

Rangers Jurickson Profar

Joe Camporeale – USA TODAY Sports

Jurickson Profar (TEX @ OAK)

FanDuel: $3,000/DraftKings: $3,100 (third base eligible)

Profar has been consistent to say the least, since being called up. At times it’s splitting hairs to decide between Profar and Rougned Odor, but Odor has been more boom or bust over the last two weeks. Sean Manaea is the third straight southpaw Profar will be facing which will help him develop from the right side of the plate.

Brett Lawrie (CWS @ DET)

FanDuel: $2,800/DraftKings: $3,600

With Matt Boyd on the hill for the Tigers, White Sox hitters may be popular tonight as this game’s run total is currently at 9 1/2. Lawrie’s price on FanDuel makes it easier to roster him there, especially for a hitter batting in the middle of the order in a high scoring game.

Other second basemen to consider: Ian Kinsler (DET @ CWS), and Scooter Gennett (MIL @ SF).

Third base

Kris Bryant (CHC @ WAS)

FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $4,200 (outfield eligible)

Even with an offense as potent as the Cubs, it’s hard to ignore an opposing pitcher as good as Max Scherzer. With that being said, it says a lot when you target a hitter against said pitcher. Bryant has slightly better numbers against pitchers of the same handedness. During his young career against right-handed pitchers, Bryant has a .502 slugging percentage, .369 BABIP, and .379 wOBA, while making hard contact 37.7% of the time.

Todd Frazier (CWS vs. DET)

FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $4,900

For his price on FanDuel, Frazier could be the most highly owned third baseman. Frazier will have the platoon here and when he does, for his career he has a .509 slugging percentage, .832 OPS, .250 ISO, and a home run to fly ball percentage of 19.2%

Other third basemen to consider: Nick Castellanos (DET @ CWS), Trevor Plouffe (MIN @ LAA), and Josh Donaldson (TOR vs. PHI).

Shortstop

Eduardo Nunez (MIN @ LAA)

FanDuel: $3,300/DraftKings: $4,800

Nunez has been pretty solid for the last couple of weeks, and against Jered Weaver tonight, the Twins might be a sneaky stack to target with other higher scoring games on the schedule. He’s at a much friendlier price on FanDuel, but could still be a GPP target on DraftKings.

Brandon Crawford (SF vs. MIL)

FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $3,400

Crawford is an off-the-radar target, with other shortstops who might be more desirable, but he has the platoon here and will be batting in the middle of the Giants’ lineup. The Giants will be looking to get their bats going and it’s foreseeable against Brewers pitcher Chase Anderson, who usually doesn’t pitch out of the sixth inning.

Other shortstops to consider: Corey Seager (LAD @ ARI), and Jonathan Villar (MIL @ SF).

Outfield

David Peralta (ARI vs. LAD)

FanDuel: $2,600/DraftKings: $4,000

With the platoon and discrepancy in price, Peralta could be one of the highest owned outfielders tonight on FanDuel. He and the Diamondbacks will be facing Dodgers’ pitcher, Mike Bolsinger. Peralta and his teammates have the ball park advantage of hitting at Chase Field, and coupled with Bolsinger’s inability to pitch deep into games, they could score runs early to force him out of the game.

Matt Kemp (SD vs. MIA)

FanDuel: $3,000/DraftKings: $4,400

Kemp with the platoon is a target I like to keep my eye on. Petco Park doesn’t favor pitchers as heavily, and Kemp’s numbers this season against southpaws are drastically better than pitchers of the same handedness. He currently has a slugging percentage of .678, 1.006 OPS, .339 ISO, and .414 wOBA.

Ryan Braun (MIL @ SF)

FanDuel: $3,700/DraftKings: $3,900

Braun is at a price that’s easier to roster on DraftKings, but that doesn’t mean you should overlook him on FanDuel. Cain’s numbers against either handedness of batters have been bad and Braun’s numbers against right-handed pitchers are pretty good. For his career against them he has a .517 slugging percentage, .871 OPS, .223 ISO, and .374 wOBA. A pitcher’s park like AT&T Park shouldn’t shy you away from rostering Braun.

Other outfielders to consider: Adam Duvall (CIN @ ATL), J.D. Martinez (DET @ CWS), Ian Desmond (TEX @ OAK), Michael Saunders (TOR vs. PHI) and Mike Trout (LAA vs. MIN).
