It’s a pretty full slate of games for MLB DFS heading into the weekend, minus the Cubs and Pirates day game.
Chris Sale (CWS @ NYY)
FanDuel: $12,000/DraftKings: $12,300
Sale is by far the top pitching target tonight. With an impressive 7-0 record and 1.79 ERA, the Yankees will try to add right-handed bats to their lineup but Sale’s so good, it might not matter. It’ll be tricky to pay up for him with a Coors Field game on the slate.
Nate Karns (SEA vs. LAA)
FanDuel: $8,500/DraftKings: $8,200
Karns is quietly putting together a nice season and so are the Mariners as a whole. With the Angels being one of the worse teams in the league for hitting, Karns has the advantage of pitching in Safeco.
Victor Martinez (DET @ BAL)
FanDuel: $3,300/DraftKings: $4,100
Martinez is having a much better season and hitting at Camden Yards against Chris Tillman is a good combination. Martinez has been striking out less and walking more, with his power numbers at a higher level than we expected. Tillman has been pitching better but all it takes is one mistake.
Yasmani Grandal (LAD vs. STL)
FanDuel: $2,800/DraftKings: $2,900
Grandal has put together a couple of nice games and has the platoon against opposing pitcher, Michael Wacha. He has a home run in each of his last two games and Grandal could get another off of Wacha, who has give up at least one in each of his last three starts.
Lucas Duda (NYM @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,900/DraftKings: $4,600
We have a Coors game today and I like Duda here against Jon Gray. Gray has been pitching well away from home, but pitching at Coors Field is another story.
Edwin Encarnacion (TOR @ TEX)
FanDuel: $3,800/DraftKings: $4,500
Encarnacion has similar pricing to Duda tonight, and you can look to pivot to him if you want to differentiate your lineup from others with Coors Field stacks. Texas is sending Martin Perez to the mound, who doesn’t strikeout many batters and has given up all three of his home runs at home. We are aware of Encarnacion’s power, and he and the Blue Jays can show it tonight.
Daniel Murphy (WAS vs. MIA)
FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $5,000
Murphy is having a great season and is more appealing hitting cleanup. Tom Koehler is pitching for the Marlins tonight and the Nationals will be looking to score several runs, with the run total being eight for the game. With the platoon, Murphy from the left side of the plate this season has a .471 wOBA, .663 slugging percentage, .265 ISO, and .410 BABIP. Murphy is a solid play almost everyday.
Neil Walker (NYM @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,600/DraftKings: $4,300
Walker’s bat has been quiet since his home run barrage to start the season and has been dealing with an injury. He’s played in two games in a row, and Coors Field may be what he needs to start getting it going. We know Walker has pop in his bat and at his price, it’s hard not to play him.
Josh Donaldson (TOR @ TEX)
FanDuel: $4,300/DraftKings: $5,400
A Blue Jays stack will be popular tonight too, but Donaldson is priced up for this matchup against the Rangers. He is more of a tournament play, in my opinion. With a game total of 10 runs, this is the American League version of Coors Field.
Trevor Plouffe (MIN @ CLE)
FanDuel: $2,900/DraftKings: $3,700
For a more affordable option at the position, you can look to Plouffe. He’s back from the DL and has power potential. For this season, all of Plouffe’s home runs and RBIs have been off of right-handed pitchers. He’s not someone that needs the platoon which is nice because it gives you a little more flexibility with you targets.
Francisco Lindor (CLE vs. MIN)
FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $4,100
A lot of people will be on the other high scoring games, but I like the Indians against the Twins too. As a switch-hitter that bats third at this position, Lindor is always enticing. He’ll be facing Ricky Nolasco, who gives up home runs to either handedness with lefty hitters having better numbers against him in slugging percentage and wOBA. The Indians could be a sneaky stack for tonight.
Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $3,800
Mets bats may be more popular in this game and Cabrera could be a salary relief alternative to Trevor Story if you need to spend elsewhere. The higher in the order he bats, the better.
Curtis Granderson (NYM @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,700/DraftKings: $4,700
Many will look towards rostering Michael Conforto, but I like Granderson too in this game with a little bit of salary savings. Granderson only has a handful of at-bats against Jon Gray, and several games at Coors Field which have been productive. With Granderson hitting lead off, it’s possible he’ll have six plate appearances if this ends up being a high scoring game.
Giancarlo Stanton (MIA @ WAS)
FanDuel: $4,300/DraftKings: $5,300
Stanton has a shot at hitting a home run every night, but I like his matchup against Gio Gonzalez. In this price range, there are other, more popular outfield targets and Stanton could be a contrarian play.
Nomar Mazara (TEX vs. TOR)
FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $3,500
Mazara is at a nice price today, considering the pricing of other hitters on this slate. R.A. Dickey has had a few rough outings this season and the Rangers will be looking to continue that. With Blue Jays bats priced up for this game, you can look to the Rangers hitters for exposure to this game.
Other outfielders to consider: Charlie Blackmon (COL vs. NYM), Bryce Harper (WAS vs. MIA), Jose Bautista (TOR @ TEX), Michael Conforto (NYM @ COL), Denard Span (SF @ ARI), and Steve Pearce (TB vs. OAK).
