Lamar Miller and Matt Forte among players find homes in Free Agency

Lamar Miller

Lamar Miller to the Houston Texans

Lamar Miller’s time with the Miami Dolphins appears to be over. He is headed to the Houston Texans on a 4 year deal for $26 million. He will be taking over for Arian Foster who has been the focal point of the Texas offense during his 7 seasons with the team. Miller has a golden opportunity with the team to improve his stock as a fantasy performer. He was never a huge workload guy in Miami and he should see his touches tick up with the Texans. He should see a 200 plus rush attempts and in the neighborhood of 50 catches. Eclipsing the 1,000 rushing yard total and double digit rushing touchdowns seem reasonable for Miller. He has 8 touchdowns each of the last two seasons. In looking for a new home he wanted 20 plus touches a game and the Texans obliged. This should appease many fantasy owners as Miller should finally be unleashed.

Matt Forte to the New York Jets

Matt Forte has found a new home after spending his first 8 seasons with the Chicago Bears. The move makes a ton of sense for the Jets, who lost Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Forte is the complete back that can still be a really good player. He will be an upgrade for the Jets who are looking to prove they can be a threat come playoff time. Forte should get his 200 plus carries approach or eclipse 1,000 yards rushing and be a threat in the passing game. The question for the Jets is who will be handing the ball to Forte?

Doug Martin staying with the Buccaneers

Doug Martin had an impressive bounce back season in 2015 and the Buccaneers have rewarded him with a 5 years deal for $35 million after a strong rookie season where Martin eclipsed 1,400 yards and double digits in 319 carries. The next two seasons saw him battle injuries and under performance. 2015 was a return to that Martin we saw his rookie season. He eclipsed the 1,400 yard plateau once again finding the end zone 6 times. Dirk Koetter has take over as the head coach for the Buccaneers. He was the offensive coordinator a season ago and was a huge part of Martin’s bounce back. The two working together should help Martin continue his success in 2016.

Demarco Murray

DeMarco Murray to the Tennessee Titans

This move is a trade and not really a free agent move but it felt appropriate to include DeMarco Murray. The Titans and Philadelphia Eagles completed a deal that will send Murray to the Titans in exchange for the right to swap picks in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. This move was a pure salary dump for the Eagles who are cleaning house after relieving Chip Kelly of his coaching duties. Murray in Tennessee seems like a tremendous fit. The Titans were in search of a running back who could handle the duties post Chris Johnson. David Cobb and Antonio Andrews will still be around to provide depth but Murray should get the work. The Titans are improving their offensive line signing guard/center Ben Jones from division rival Houston Texans.
