NBA DFS Playbook – 2/29
Today is a very different Monday of NBA DFS with it being a leap day and all. Not that the seven game slate doesn’t have value across the board, but tonight is a night where I honestly have no problem stacking two of the games and forgetting everything else. The OKC/Kings and the Pacers/Cavs games instantly jump off the page as two games to build your lineup around. But I’ll spread the love around with my picks this evening and make this a February 29 to remember! Or at least until another one shows up in four years. Good luck out there tonight.
Darren Collison ($5,400)
This is all dependent on if Rajon Rondo is playing tonight. I am plugging one of these guys in my lineup tonight in a fast paced, high scoring game this evening. Obviously Collison offers salary relief, but you honestly can’t go wrong with either guy tonight.
Russell Westbrook ($11,100)
Westbrook is Bestbrook. He’s been, very quietly, the second best player in the league this year. He would probably win the MVP if it wasn’t for that Stephen Curry guy. I know there’s a ton of value out there tonight, but the Kings backcourt has adopted the James Harden defensive philosophy. It wouldn’t surprise me if he puts up another triple-double tonight.
Will Barton ($5,600)
Barton was my guy the first 30 games of the season. There was such a nice stretch where he kept playing and producing at a high level but DK refused to go up on his price tag. Tonight he has a nice matchup against the Grizzlies and should see an increase in minutes with Danilo Galliari injured.
Monta Ellis ($5,900)
Ellis is a DFS enigma. When he hits, he hits around 6x value and you’re feeling great about playing him. When he’s off, it’s like watching a burning building that won’t stop burning. I love Ellis tonight but I can’t think of him more than a GPP. He has a nice matchup tonight against the Cavs, and his salary is low enough that he offers salary relief while still having a high enough ceiling to really help your team. He’s a great tournament option tonight.
Otto Porter Jr ($4,900)
Porter is usually not someone I want on my roster, but he’s been hot lately and he’s playing the Sixers. This should be a fast paced game, and he’s been playing much more aggressively after Randy Wittman called him out on it. I hate chasing points but things are shaping up for Porter to have a nice night where he should hit value this evening. I prefer him in GPP’s but I wouldn’t blame anyone for putting him in playing him in a cash lineup.
Giannis Antetokounmpo ($7,800)
One day in the future I’ll be able to spell that name correctly, but today is not that day my friends. Giannis has been playing out of his mind lately in this new rotation for the Bucks, and he seems to be getting better every game. The stat sheet may not show it, but he’s a big reason the Bucks are quietly a team nobody wants to face in the postseason. He gets the Houston Rockets tonight who believe that defense is something of a basketball legend. He’s almost a lock tonight in all my cash lineups.
JaMychal Green ($4,300)
With Brandon Wright out indefinitely, Green is the first one to step up and fill that position. That front court of Memphis is looking mighty thin these days with Marc Gasol out as well, so Green should be getting a heavy dose of minutes. His ceiling isn’t incredibly high and he’s still a raw talent, but he’s worth a shot in tournaments tonight to stack you team with some of the bigger names.
Kevin Love ($7,400)
Love is my sneaky play of the night. With LeBron James and Kyrie Irving both playing tonight, Love will continue to be an after thought. Not to mention that he put up a real stinker last game when everyone was all over him in DFS. The truth is that Indiana has one of the worst frontcourts in the league and they cannot rebound to save their lives. Love should be in line for a solid night, and he can always put up a huge game if they get him involved early.
DeMarcus Cousins ($10,700)
Hello, my name is Josh and I am a Boogie mark. I know it and I am willing to admit it. The Kings will need him to have a big game tonight to have any hope of winning. George Karl knows this as well, and you can bet your ass that Boogie knows it as well. It’s really hard to have both Cousins and Westbrook in your lineup with that price tags, but I would love to find a way to fit them both in there. If you can fit him in, I am more than happy to do so tonight.
Jahlil Okafor ($6,100)
Okafor is coming off back-to-back solid games for the Sixers. He also put up 21 real life points against the Wizards just a couple of days ago. I think that is about where he finishes tonight. That puts him around 5x as his baseline and I’ll take that on any night in my cash lineups.
