NBA DFS Playbook – 1/27/16

Klay

Welcome back to all my NBA DFS degenerates out there! Tonight Wednesday, January 27, 2016, a nice 8-game daily fantasy basketball slate is upon us as multiple premier superstars take the court in primetime. In this edition of the NBA DFS Playbook, my overall advice would be to play the matchups and identify what value plays make your roster the most well rounded. Best of luck tonight guys, lets go out and win.

Suns @ Cavs – 7pm (CLE -17)

This should be a fairly nice game to target for the DFS community. Its sooooo difficult to build a lineup without Kyrie Irving tonight. Phoenix is terrible defensively against guards, which means Kyrie at a modest price of 6500 should feast. Tristan Thompson recently entered the starting five for Cleveland and it is no secret new HC Tyron Lue wants to get him more involved. Lebron is Lebron, and water is wet. Not too much to type up on him tonight. For Phoenix, Alex Len has been playing a ton of power forward lately. The front court has been dealing with injuries to Leuer and Morris, so he has been needed in different spots. Devin Booker could have a solid game, especially if this one gets out of hand quickly and we see a lot of reserve Cavs enter the game.

Players to Target (PHX) – Len, Booker

Players to Target (CLE) – Irving, James, Thompson

Nuggets @ Celtics – 730pm (BOS -9.5)

My favorite game of the night is this one right here. So many great players to choose from in this contest. Boston is climbing the ladder in the Eastern Conference, and climbing the ladder into our DFS hearts. Love some Isiah Thomas tonight in an uptempo game. It is hard to say no to Marcus Smart and his production recently. Coach Stevens appears to finally trust him as his minutes have increased, and turnovers decreased. For the Nuggets, I am a fan of Gallinari. His numbers have been pretty consistent all season, and at this point he is one of the safest cash game plays tonight.

Players to Target (DEN) – Gallinari, Faried, Harris

Players to Target (BOS) – Thomas, Crowder, Smart

76ers @ Pistons – 730pm (DET -12)

This game has great potential. As bad as Philadelphia is at basketball, they always create exciting DFS games. They have single-handedly over night transformed Ish Smith into a fantasy superstar, and vaulted no name players like Robert Convington into relevancy. Always proceed with caution, they have a great chance of getting blown out. Detroit gets a very solid matchup. Philly does not defend well, so Reggie Jackson, KCP, and most importantly Andre Drummond will all have solid games. Never a huge fan of Drummond, mainly because of his lack of free throw shooting (hinders his minutes in the 4th) and tendency to get in foul trouble. I will take my shot tonight with him, as the 76ers will miss a lot of shots and lead to a lot of rebounds.

Players to Target (PHI) – Smith, Covington, Grant

Players to Target (DET) – Drummond, Caldwell-Pope

Clippers @ Hawks – 730pm (ATL -5)

Atlanta welcomes the Clippers into town tonight in what should be an exciting matchup. I’ll make this one really simple. Chris Paul should dominate tonight. He tends to do more scoring than assisting in road games, which always helps his fantasy value. Deandre Jordan is also becoming a safe play. The 2 points you get for each blocked shot skyrockets his value. Not really in love with Redick tonight, as I believe Bazemore will shadow him and is an excellent defender. I am putting some trust in Paul Millsap tonight, but his price is the only thing keeping him out of my lineups. He has a solid matchup against LA, as they rotate the 4 spot to no avail.

Players to Target (LAC) – Paul, Jordan

Players to Target (ATL) – Millsap

Thunder @ Timberwolves – 8pm (OKC -7)

Early in the season my expectations for the T-Wolves were really high. I thought they could contend for a playoff spot in the West, and Andrew Wiggins would really take the next step into fantasy stardom. Why both are not completely out of the question or too late to fathom, the Wolves have not been great either. Tonight I would recommend Karl Towns. I am a fan of his game and he is a consistent player for a very inconsistent team. For OKC this is an easy one. Westbrook and KD. It never changes and it never fails.

Players to Target (OKC) – Durant, Westbrook

Players to Target (MIN) – Towns

Rockets @ Spurs – 8pm (SA -10)

Tonight I am avoiding all Rockets players. Even after San Antonio getting blown out on Monday night, they are still the best defensive team in the NBA. That is one stat you should usually respect in DFS and Fantasy. Harden will be extremely low owned because of this, but I wouldn’t advice going against the grain and play him. His price just doesn’t meet expected value tonight vs the Spurs. I do however love the opportunity LaMarcus Aldridge will get tonight. The big fella loves matchups against smaller power forwards, so this is right up his alley. Be sure if you’re playing any Spurs players to constantly check news up to tip-off. Poppovich is crazy.

Players to Target (HOU) – NOBODY.

Players to Target (SA) – Leonard, Aldridge, Parker

Hornets @ Jazz – 9pm (UTAH -6.5)

Last time these two teams met, I won a ton of money thanks to Kemba Walker. He exploded for more than 80 fantasy points on DraftKings. Before the game went into two overtimes, Kemba had still exceeded value at about 55 fantasy points. I am not opposed to playing him again tonight, as Charlotte is still recovering a lot of players from injuries. He is being asked to score and it is no secret. I do like the recent success PJ Hairston has had. He isn’t a flashy player, but he is looking much more comfortable playing important minutes for his team. His price is low, and his production has been up recently. On the opposite side, it should not be forgotten the explosion Gordon Hayward had in the last meeting as well. Hayward dominated to the tune of 60+ on DK. Utah may play with lineups tonight with Derrick Favors back in the lineup, so do not get to comfy stacking this game expecting a similar outcome.

Players to Target (CHA) – Walker, Hairston

Players to Target (UTAH) – Hayward, Gobert, Williams

Mavericks @ Warriors – 1030pm (GS -18)

Revenge. Dallas is one of the few teams to beat the defending champs this season. Coming off a huge win against the second best team in the league, the Dubs look to continue their success with heavy doses of Steph and Klay. I made Klay the cover boy for this article because I expect a huge game. Last time these teams met up, the Warriors were without Curry. Many players poured their chips into Klay to produce and he just failed miserably. Tonight, there will be a lot less pressure on him to score, and Steph should be able to naturally get him great looks. Dallas is beat up and has been all season. Zaza and Dirk have already been ruled out of this one, contributing to the large spread of -18. Dwight Powell and Mejri should get some extended run, but I wouldn’t count on either contributing unless it is in garbage time. Parsons will have a ton of weight on his shoulders to keep the Mavs in this game.

Players to Target (DAL) – Parsons, Mejri, Powell

Players to Target (GS) – Thompson, Curry, Green

Below I will be giving all my viewers/readers a free lineup, built on my article tonight. Feel free to tweet me and let me know if you used it and how you finished! Happy gaming!
