NBA DFS Playbook – 1/13/16

tyreke evans

Welcome back to all my NBA DFS degenerates out there! Wednesday, January 13, 2016, a large 10-game daily fantasy basketball slate is upon us as multiple premier superstars take the court in primetime. In this edition of the NBA DFS Playbook, my overall advice would be to play the matchups and identify what value plays make your roster the most well rounded. Best of luck tonight guys, lets go out and win.

Play of the Night: Tyreke Evans

There are many reasons why you should have Tyreke Evans in your lineup tonight. I’ll start by giving you the most obvious ones. He is a really good all around basketball player. Reke is the type of guy who does a little of everything; rebound, assist, score, block shots or whatever his team may need that night. In his last 4 games he is averaging 42.75 fantasy points on Draftkings, and thats good enough to pay off his price tag of $8200 tonight. In a (revenge) matchup against the Sacramento Kings, the upside for a monster game is in play for Evans. The Kings are absolutely terrible when it comes to defending the wing and perimeter. They are honestly terrible at playing defense all together, which bolds well for the Pelican scorers tonight. And the cherry on top of everything is that Anthony Davis is questionable for tonight, and probably unlikely to suit up. This means an extended workload for him and his supporting cast. Evans makes for my top play of the night so get him in your lineups!

Hawks @ Hornets – 7pm (ATL -2.5)

This game is definitely a good one, featuring two competitive Eastern Conference contenders. This game will truly benefit Atlanta’s big men as they are averaging 45 ppg in the paint this season. This makes for great DFS opportunity for the Hawks front court players tonight. While Charlotte is more perimeter oriented, they still have the tendency to slash and get to the basket. I like this game for fantasy purposes, as these two teams have already played two close games this season. This likely means a third close matchup, in which starters should be on the floor for upwards of 35-40 minutes.

Players to Target (ATL) – Millsap, Horford, Bazemore

Players to Target (CHA) – Walker, M Williams, Lamb

Bucks @ Wizards – 7pm (WSH -5.5)

I will start by giving very simple advice in regards to this game. John Wall is banged up, and is actually questionable for this contest. While he may play, it is pretty evident that a day or two off could really do him some good. The Wizards will not be able to defend the Bucks wing players, as there is simply too much height and length at every position. The Wiz are terrible against perimeter players, which leads me to somewhat of a Bucks stack in some DFS lineups. Milwaukee head coach Jason Kidd has done a much better job of managing his rotation, so trust the players who are getting the most minutes. Interestingly Washington is favored in this one, but if I were a betting man, I would have no issue taking MIL straight up in this one. There will simply be too many points scored, and that makes for a great game fantasy wise.

Players to Target (MIL) – Middleton, Antetokounmpo, Parker, Mayo

Players to Target (WSH) – Gortat, Porter Jr

Knicks @ Nets – 730pm (NY -4)

The Knicks travel across the city tonight to take on Brooklyn in the subway series. This game will feature both Lopez twins, a blazing hot Kristaps Porzingis, a battered Nets backcourt, and an anxious Carmelo Anthony. I’ll start with Porzingis because I absolutely love the potential of the rookie in this one. Rookies need to face bad teams to get their confidence up, and what better opponent than the lowly Brooklyn Nets. The rook has been great in the new year, and with a price tag of just 7k I would look for him to dominate. It is worth noting that Carmelo always shows up in this rivalry. The stars tend to come out, and so does Melo’s game. He is a viable option in cash games.

Players to Target (NY) – Porzingis, Anthony, Afflalo, Lopez

Players to Target (BKN) – Young, Lopez, Sloan

Pacers @ Celtics – 8pm (BOS -3.5)

I really love Paul George tonight. I think it will be a close game, his price has dropped recently, and he simply has to have a great performance for his team to win. All signs point towards PG13 giving his best tonight in a second game of a back to back for Indiana. Boston has a tough test against them, as the Pacers have regained their reputation as one of the better defensive teams in the league. Coach Stevens has an odd rotation, that features a very crowded front court. Other than Thomas, majority of the Celtics players make for GPP contests only.

Players to Target (IND) – Hill, P George, Ellis

Players to Target (BOS) – Crowder, Thomas, Johnson, Sullinger

Timberwolves @ Rockets – 8pm (HOU -8)

The Timberwolves are finally starting to gel, but we have seen their youth and inexperience hurt them a few times this season. I love the opportunity Andrew Wiggins gets nightly, and when it comes to daily fantasy you want a guy getting a lot of shot attempts. The former #1 overall pick has been streaky at times this season, but in an uptempo game against the Rockets, there should be no reason why he can’t take advantage of James Harden on defense and have himself a nice game. In DFS, Harden actually has a increasing price, which is odd. He has had a few good games in a row, but nothing to warrant his price almost matching Curry and Westbrook amongst others. I will be fading him in cash games, but I expect his ownership to hover around 15-20% in large tournaments.

Players to Target (MIN) – Wiggins, Rubio, Towns

Players to Target (HOU) – Harden, Howard

Mavericks @ Thunder – 8pm (OKC -11)

This game has a lot of opportunity in it. Chandler Parsons is coming off a great game and Zaza has been one of the most consistent players in fantasy this season. On the flip side for OKC, it is always the Westbrook and Durant show. I’ve toyed around with a lot of different lineups where I feature both the Thunder superstars, but there is a lot of value tonight at point guard and many safer players at SF. Not that Durant isn’t a safe play, he is a solid lock to hit value. We just haven’t seen him have that 60+ fantasy game in a while, which leads me to believe he is not playing with the same intensity he has before. Could this be Westbrook’s team now, with free agency on his mind? Regardless, for DFS purposes this game could be a gold mine. There are a lot of sleepers in this one, especially Wes Matthews and even JJ Barea if Deron Williams sits out.

Players to Target (DAL) – Pachulia, Parsons, Matthews

Players to Target (OKC) – Durant, Westbrook, Kanter

Warriors @ Nuggets – 9pm (GS -9.5)

What a great game for Daily Fantasy. The Warriors could possibly be sitting out some of their key starters and reserves as they take on two opponents in back to back nights with losing records. Draymond Green, Andre Igoudala, and possibly a few others could be rested which opens up more playing time for the already contributing Brandon Rush and Festus Ezeli. Check the news throughout the night to confirm the starters and inactives. In a fast paced game, Steph Curry should honestly be universally owned. Do not miss out. Denver has a lot of guys who could get after it tonight. I am really a fan of Will Barton tonight, especially since he has not been meeting value causing his price to drop. This game is right up his alley as both squads should top 100 points easily tonight.

Players to Target (GS) – Curry, Thompson, Rush, Barnes, Ezeli, Speights, Clark

Players to Target (DEN) – Barton, Gallinari, Faried, Harris

Jazz @ Trail Blazers – 10pm (POR -2.5)

This is not the most exciting game. The Jazz have a slow, lullaby pace and run many set plays in the half court. However, in DFS all we care about is the stats baby. I can see Gordon Hayward having a nice game, and certainly Rudy Gobert is a candidate to exceed his price tag now that his minutes have increased. Portland has one guy, and that man is Damian Lillard. He is honestly the only viable option I see for them, with everyone else being a shot in the dark.

Players to Target (UTAH) – Hayward, Gobert

Players to Target (POR) – Lillard

Pelicans @ Kings -10pm (SAC -8)

Tyreke Evans. See above. I do like some Ryan Anderson if Anthony Davis misses another game, and Anderson is coming off a solid performance against the Lakers. The fact that Sacramento is favored by 8 points is pretty mind blowing. Is Vegas forgetting that they are equally as terrible? Demarcus Cousins is in line for a huge night, and with so much value at PF it may actually benefit you to pay up for him.

Players to Target (NO) – Evans, Holiday, Anderson

Players to Target ( SAC) – Cousins, Rondo, Casspi

Heat @ Clippers – 1030pm (LAC -6)

The last game of the night and a nationally televised game is just what Chris Paul needed. CP3 has never been one to worry about shot blockers at the rim, and if anything it should benefit him in getting to the free throw line a few extra times tonight. I like JJ Redick a lot tonight. He has stepped up his game in the absence of Griffin. Go Duke. Justice Winslow and Loul Deng, Go Duke. DFS wise, I wouldn’t say I am in love with anybody from Miami, but the flash tends to put on a show in primetime, especially in LA.

Players to Target (MIA) – Wade, Whiteside, Bosh, Dragic, Green

Players to Target (LAC) – Paul, Jordan, Redick
