IDP Week 9 Waiver Wire Article: Post-Doomsday

Kwon Alexander 2

First and foremost, I know he’s not on waivers in your league, but I want to give a shout out to Bucs LB, Kwon Alexander, who played with a heavy heart against the Falcons.  I got a lot of respect for this young man, played through emotions and had his best game as a Buccaneer so far (11 tackles, 1 FR, 1 INT) and not to mention got the game ball when it was all said and done.  I enjoy moments like this because it demonstrates the brotherhood a team has and what they’ve built together, it is their second family.  Again, much respect and prayers sent to you and your family Kwon, continue to ball out because you’re contending for Defensive  Rookie of the Year and at the same time I’m going to let you have your moment but please share the wealth with our boy Lavonte, thanks.

Now let’s talk about week eight or have we already endured all we could take from the injuries that occurred yesterday? I mean let’s take a look shall we –

  • Cameron Wake, MIA (Achilles) – out for season
  • Jacquies Smith, TBB (Ankle) – could be out a week or two or more
  • Sam Shields, GBP (Shoulder) – uncertain
  • Quinten Rollins, GBP (Shoulder) – uncertain
  • Clinton McDonald, TBB (Pectoral) – uncertain
  • Joe Haden, CLE (Concussion) – week 9 in jeopardy
  • Corey Liuget, SDC (Foot) – uncertain
  • Donte Whitner, CLE (Concussion) – week 9 in jeopardy
  • William Gholston, TBB (knee) – no timeframe
  • Rey Maualuga, CIN (calf) – week 9 in jeopardy

should I add in the offensive players? no I won’t, I feel like I’m missing some injuries but this is a lot to take in and the biggest one by far is the injury to Cameron Wake, it not only ends his season but possibly his career in a Dolphins uniform as well.  It was a damn shame too because he was gaining momentum for his IDP owners, 7 sacks in 3 games.  We’re all battling through injuries right now, slim pickings on waivers and just looking for the next man up and I’m here to help you with all this.

  • DERRICK SHELBY (MIA, DE):  With Wake now out for the season, Shelby is the next man up in Miami.  He won’t replace Wake’s production, in fact far from, but he’s a mild add in 12+ leagues that start 2 or more DL.  He’s been a rotational DE but with added snaps he could be serviceable as your DL2/3 going forward.  Shelby has 11 tackles on the season and in 2014 he put up 34 tackles and 2.5 sacks, nothing to get excited for but let’s be honest here there’s 6 teams on bye in week 9 and you’re probably suffering from injuries, Shelby has small slate of upside and enough to keep OL’s honest and off Vernon.
  • HOWARD JONES (TBB, DE):  with both Jacquies Smith and William Gholston suffering injuries in week 8, Jones role could expand in week 9 against the Giants.  Jones has solid upside as a DL2 option, in his first 3 games of his career he’s put up 3 sacks, 1 FR and 1TD – one of those sacks included the huge sack in OT against the Falcons.  The coaches are looking for playmakers on defense and they seemed to have found one in Jones (if he can keep it up).  Same applies to Jones like I mentioned about Shelby, worth an add in 12+ teams and to be honest I’d to pick up Jones before Shelby here.
  • VONTAZE BURFICT (CIN, LB):  the most hated man in Pittsburgh right now, not only did he make his season debut after being off the field for nearly a year but he also made a tackle on Steelers RB, Le’Veon Bell that tore his MCL and ended his season.  As expected Burfict snaps where restricted and he saw just 36 snaps on Sunday, that’s progress and should continue to increase as he gets comfortable.  Mentioned last week he’s worth a flier if you have dead weight on your roster, could get it going in a couple of weeks but worth a LB3 start going forward.
  • MARIO EDWARDS (OAK, DE):  During the past 4 weeks he’s been the DL28, 14 tackles and 1 sack.  He’s getting comfortable out there and getting better each week, numbers will follow.  Edwards should be 100% owned in dynasty formats but if he’s available and you start 2-3 DL then I’d definitely make a move to add him, best to get him now before he erupts. Temper expectations each week though but against PIT in week 9 he’s worth a flier as your DL2 (if you have nobody else to start).
  • DENICO AUTRY (OAK, DE):  in his first game since week 4, Autry put up 5 tackles and 1 sack.  Will be facing PIT-MIN-DET in next 3 games, all prime matchups and if you’re looking for a steady floor then Autry is your guy.  The Raiders are short on pass rushers and both Edwards and Autry will be valuable next few weeks, grab them now especially if you lost Wake and no other viable options available.
  • WESLEY WOODYARD (TEN, LB):  seems that TEN is deploying a 3-headed ILB rotation with Williamson, Woodyard and Brown.  Surprisingly Woodyard has been your LB7 the last 4 weeks (36 tackles and 1 sack).  This is his tackles total from weeks 5-8 (9, 10, 9 and 8) that’s back to 2012 type Woodyard numbers and I’ll be honest that I’ve written him off already but he’s looked like he’s gotten back on the defenses good graces and worth an add as your LB3 with LB2 upside.  While I wouldn’t jump the ship for Woodyard, I’d drop guys like Timmons, Worrilow for him.

Dreaming of Streaming DB version:

  1. JAQUISKI TARTT (SF):  in his first start, Tartt has put up 6 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  Mentioned last week that he’s a solid pick-up for ROS as your DB2 and one reason will be the defense will be on the field, a lot.
  2. DAMARIOUS RANDALL (GBP):  With both Shields and Rollins suffering shoulder injuries, Randall should be getting more attention, more opportunity.  He’s gotten his first INT of his career against Peyton on Sunday (not bad eh) but has also been really solid for the Packers this season (26 tackles, 1INT, 8PD).  Will be facing CAR-DET-MIN next 3 games and should be serviceable as your CB2/DB2 through those games and possibly more.
  3. LOGAN RYAN (NEP):  has 32 tackles on the year, put up 7 tackles, 1INT, 1PD in week 8 and faces WAS/NYG/BUF the next 3 games.  He’s well worth a stream as a CB2 with CB1 upside, and in DB leagues he’s worthy of a DB2 start if needed.
  4. RICARDO ALLEN (ATL):  If William Moore is going to miss more time, give Ricardo a look for your DB needs.  He put up 6 tackles and 1 sack against the Bucs on Sunday, that’s a decent game by a DB.  Has some DB2 appeal but only in 14+ team leagues and a streaming DB, solid match-up against SF in week nine too.
  5. IBRAHEIM CAMPBELL (CLE):  If Whitner is to miss time, Campbell should be getting looks at SS.  He racked up 5 tackles last game against the Cardinals, faces Bengals in week 9 and could have a decent game again but is a total wild-card play.
  6. AARON COLVIN (JAC):  coming off bye and faces the Jets, has been solid in weeks 6 and 7, leads the CB’s in sacks with (3) and could get either a sack or INT against the Jets in week 9.  He’s near the top of my CB plays each week if i’m streaming, he should be yours too.

as always please feel free to reach me on Twitter @IDPwithBEE_8o8 and I’ll be glad to answer any questions you have, thank you.
