Week 9 College Football Picks Against the Spread

Christian McCaffery

Welcome to Week 9 College Football Picks Against the Spread. It provides a chance to bounce back after a very frustrating Week 8. Week 9 is headlined by a matchup that should’ve included a visit from ESPN and College Game Day. Pullman will be an amazing scene on Halloween night.

It also features another great college town in Lubbock, Texas that has seen mayhem at another night game on Halloween. The Pac 12, ACC, and BIG 10 round out the rest of the schedule. Its time to get on a run with my picks and that run starts in Week 9.

Washington State Cougars +10 vs Stanford Cardinal

Washington State returns home off of a three game outright win streak. They are facing arguably the hottest team in the country in the Stanford Cardinals. Christian McCaffrey has been everything for their offense. The Cougars offense led by Luke Falk has be equally impressive. They will need to put up a ton of points to stay in this game but I think they can. They are 4-0 as underdogs this season against the spread and 3-1 outright. I’m not sure they can win outright but they will keep it inside the 10 and likely have a shot at the end of the game.

University of Southern California -5.5 at California Golden Bears

The Trojans came out in a big way a week ago at home against a talented Utah team. The defense was able to slow Devontae Booker and forced Travis Wilson to attempt to beat them. This week they will look to slow Jared Goff down and force someone else to beat them. On offense the Trojans will have a field day. The Bears have issues on the defensive side of the ball. Juju Smith-Schuster, Adori Jackson and Ronald Jones should produce a ton of points this week. The Trojans will win and cover again this week, this time on the road.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights +20.5 at Wisconsin Badgers

A week ago Rutgers was smacked around by Ohio State in a game the Buckeyes wanted to show out. This week the Scarlet Knights are catching way too many points to a Wisconsin Badgers team even at Camp Randall. They hung with other middle of the road Big 10 teams the two weeks prior to the matchup with Ohio State. Ideally they have Leonte Carroo back. He is a huge playmaker for this offense. Paul James should be able to run against the Badgers. Wisconsin has failed to cover in 3 of their last four games coming into this game. The Badgers likely win but it will be inside three touchdowns.

Boston College Eagles vs Virginia Tech Hokies Under 37.5

Boston College has an incredible defense that is being held back by avery anemic offense. They haven’t scored more than 17 points since the first two weeks of the season. Virginia Tech was happy to see Michael Brewer back under center to help their offense but they will have their hands full with this Eagles defense. The Hokies have a very solid defense they lean on like BC. This game will be a ton of punting and frustration for the offense. Under 37.5 feels like a safe bet.

Texas Tech Red Raiders 2.5 vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are 7-0 but outside a win in Morgantown, they haven’t won any games that really impress. Their schedule starts to really ramp up as does the schedule with many Big 12 teams. They welcome TCU next week and finish with Baylor and Oklahoma. Mason Rudolph has 1 touchdown and 5 picks on the road this season in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders offense is legit and should play well against a Cowboys defense that has been solid. Not only will they cover but they should win outright.
