NFL Picks Against the Spread Week 8: Several Teams on Upset Alert

ED MULHOLLAND/USA TODAY SPORTS

NFL Picks Against the Spread for Week 8 features several teams that need to be placed on upset alert. It features some line moves that are only adding value. The road can be a friendly place for some teams this week, while others will rely on the firendly confines of their home stadium. After a 5-0 Week 7, lets see if we can keep it rolling.

>Season Total 24-9-2
>Upset Alert 5-2

New York Jets -3 at Oakland Raiders

The New York Jets have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. They have a defense that is really strong against the run. Latavius Murray should have issues producing against this front seven. The Raiders will have to move the ball via the pass against a talented secondary anchored by Darrell Revis. Amari Cooper will have trouble in this game. Expect the Jets to run the ball well in this game especially if Nick Mangold can be back, which seems like the expectation at this point. The Jets should cover the spread and then some.

St. Louis Rams -8 vs San Francisco 49ers

The St. Louis Rams have an extremely talented defense that plays better at home. This week they will feast on Colin Kaepernick who struggles when the opponent can get pressure on him. Expect them to force a few turnovers and likely score on one or more. On offense it should be the Todd Gurley show. The 49ers have issues stopping the run. They also struggle to stop pass catching running backs. The Rams should cover the spread and win a game much like they did a week ago against the Browns.

Tennessee Titans +4 at Houston Texans

The Texans offense will rely heavily on Brian Hoyer with Arian Foster done for the year. This week they face a Titans defense that has been really good against the pass. They have allowed the least amount of passing yards in the NFL. Zach Mettenberger will likely be under center for the Titans. I expect him to be able to do enough keep this game close. They can get a take away or two compliments Brian Hoyer as well. I think the Titans can win this game outright but soak up those points. The under on 43.5 looks really solid too.

Cincinnati Bengals +1.5 at Pittsburgh Steelers

This line is completely working under the assumption that Ben Roethlisberger is going to play. It moved from the Bengals -2.5 to Steelers -1.5. That line move is way too aggressive. The Bengals come into this game off of a bye. I expect the offense to continue to roll this week. Their defense has been really solid as well. They are top 10 in terms of rushing yards allowed and top 20 in passing yards allowed. It’s never easy to win in Pittsburgh but I expect the Bengals to do so.

New York Giants +3 at New Orleans Saints

The New York Giants didn’t play great at home a week ago. Eli Manning struggled and Odell Beckham Jr. was noticeably absent. That said, they were able to cover the spread. This week I expect to see a much more productive effort from the offense. The Saints have issues getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The Saints have played better as of late but I expect them to come back to reality this week. They lost 4 of their first 5 games. Expect the Giants to not only cover the 3 points but win outright.
