Week 5 NFL Picks Against the Spread

Jay Cutler

Week 5 NFL Picks Against the Spread features a chance for Jay Cutler to remind Bears fans why he is so much better than Jimmy Claussen. It also an opportunity for fans in San Francisco to honestly wonder if Blaine Gabbert is an upgrade over Colin Kaepernick. Both the Patriots and Titans look to get a win after their bye week

A 4-1 Week 4, I’m starting to get a solid feel for the NFL a quarter of the way through the season. Lets see if we can spend another find more winners!

Chicago Bears +9 at Kansas City Chiefs

Going on the road to Arrowhead Stadium can be a difficult task. However, 9 points is too many for an offense that looked much better a week ago with the return of Jay Cutler. The Bears should get Alshon Jeffery back this week, which only helps an offense that definitely needs it. The Chiefs are very susceptible via the pass and the Chicago passing game should have its way with them. Though, the Chiefs offense should be able to move the ball this week as well. I expect this game to be somewhat close, inside of a touchdown. I don’t think the Bears can do enough to win outright but take those 9 points.

Arizona Cardinals -2.5 at Detroit Lions

This Arizona Cardinal team was manhandled at home a week ago by the St. Louis Rams. There is something about Jeff Fisher against NFC foes. This week the Cardinals are on the road, but they face a Detroit Lions team that is a mess on both sides of the ball. I expect the Cardinals to remind everyone of how good they can be. Take the Cardinals in this spot. They should cover the 2.5 points pretty easily.

New York Giants -7 vs San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers offense is a total mess. The offensive line can’t block and Colin Kaepernick is definitely gun shy. Eli Manning and the offense looked solid a week ago against Buffalo. They come home to face a 49ers defense that is decent enough. They are without Ahmad Brooks this week due to a family issue. The Giants will get up big in this. Prince Amukamara will be on the other end of at least one Kaepernick pass. Giants will win this game by 10 plus points.

New England Patriots -8.5 at Dallas Cowboys

Typically, in a situation like this, I would like the home dog facing a really good team. The road team usually wants to get the win, but not necessarily looking to dominate. But these Patriots are trying to win every game by 100 points after the way their offseason went. The offense should put up a ton of points and the defense should be able to control Brandon Weeden or whomever is running the ball for the Cowboys.

Tennessee Titans +2.5 vs Buffalo Bills

I’m going to preface this pick with two things: I am a Titans fan and I typically hate to bet on games my teams play. However, this feels like a really good spot for Tennessee. They welcome a Bills team that looked bad a week ago to Nashville. They are likely without LeSean McCoy, Karlos Williams and Sammy Watkins. The Titans are coming into this game off of a bye week. Mariota has played much better at home this season and is facing a Bills defense that is beatable via the pass. Dorial Green-Beckham should be a bigger factor in the offense this week after the bye week.
