Week 4 College Football Picks Against the Spread

Josh Dobbs

Welcome to Week 4 College Football Picks Against the Spread. We look to bounce back from an ugly Week 3. I did get the Ole Miss cover and should have made them the Upset Special. None the less this week features more SEC intrigue, a PAC 12 Showdown, and a barn burner down in Big 12 country. It sets up to be a lot of fun. Lets pick some games!

Tennessee Volunteers Pick at Florida Gators

The Volunteers are a team trending in the right direction. They let a lead against Oklahoma slip away or they would be undefeated. They have been the little brother that gets pushed around by the big brother. But that little brother is now more talented and athletic and ready to return the favor. I expect the Volunteer sot play well even on the road and get a win. Will Grier and the Gator offense doesnt worry me one bit. They were lucky to escape Kentucky a week ago with a win. Tennessee wins big in this one.

Auburn Tigers -2 vs Mississippi State Bulldogs

Jeremy Johnson was a train wreck at quarterback for Auburn. Now Johnson is out and Sean White is in. White has the talent to be a stud. He was a four star recruit and Rivals.com’s 4th ranked quarterback in this class. This team still has a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. The offense needs to go fast and has been the slowest pace it has had in the Gus Malzahn era. It’s going to be hard to take the Tigers in this one but they are the right side. They win at home and look like the team many thought they could be coming into this season.

Texas Tech Red Raiders/TCU Horned Frogs Over 79.5

In this game last year TCU put up 82 points behind Trevone Boykin’s 7 passing touchdown performance. Thus far this season the Horned Frogs are averaging almost 50 points a game and the Raid Raiders are averaging 54 points a game. Expect a ton of points to be scored in this one. Even if both offense score less than their typical pace, it should hit the over.

Massachusetts Minutemen +28.5 at Notre Dame Fighting Irish

This has all the makings of a game the Irish win but do not cover. They are coming into this game off of a huge win against Georgia Tech. Next week they have a huge match up on the road against the Clemson Tigers. This will be a game that Brian Kelly will want to keep all the players healthy for next week. Irish will win by two or three scores cruising to victory but UMass will cover.

**Upset Special**

Can Utah win as a double digit underdog? (USATSI)

Can Utah win as a double digit underdog? (USATSI)

Utah +11.5 at Oregon

This Oregon Ducks team is not at the level of previous seasons. Vernon Adams is not at the same level as Marcus Mariota. He is still learning the offense and is facing a really good Utah team. If Travis Wilson plays in this game I will feel much better about Utah getting the win but I still like them with Kendal Thompson under center. Devontae Booker will be a monster in this game against a Ducks defense that is good but not great. They gave up 431 yards of total offense and 28 points. This feels like when Stanford used to go to Autzen and dominate the lines of scrimmage and win outright.
