NFL DFS: Week 1 Monday Night Playbook

Adrian Peterson

With two games tonight, this is a special Week 1 NFL DFS playbook for the Monday Night Football matchups. Week one is always the hardest to play daily, in my opinion, with so many changes in coaches, schemes, and players. Not to worry though, there is enough talent at all positions to close out the first week of football.

Quaterbacks

Sam Bradford – DraftKings ($6,900), FanDuel ($7,900)

Bradford will probably be the most highly owned at the position tonight, but that shouldn’t deter you from using him. He’s got almost as much upside as Matt Ryan, and a much higher floor than Colin Kaepernick or Teddy Bridgewater. Bradford has looking really good this preseason, and this game is likely to be a shootout. Unless Bradford gets injured, he should more than return his value.

Teddy Bridgewater – DraftKings ($6,600), FanDuel ($7,200)

I’m not a big Bridgewater believer, but I am fully committed to Norv Turner’s offensive system. The 49ers are going to stack the box with Adrien Peterson so that should really open things up for Bridgewater in the secondary. I like him as a pivot from Bradford if you’re looking to save some money or in a GPP.

Runningbacks

Adrien Peterson – DraftKings ($7,800), FanDuel ($9,200)

Everyone is going to own Peterson tonight, but he has the best matchup out of any running back this first week. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where he plays anything short of spectacular tonight. He’s a man on a mission to show the world that he’s still the player we thought he was coming into last season. I’ll take an angry AP any day.

Tevin Coleman – DraftKings ($4,800), FanDuel ($6,700)

Coming into the NFL Draft, I think I would have been the only person who wouldn’t have been surprised if Coleman would have been a first round pick. I think he has the ability to be a big play guy in this league. With Devonta Freeman still banged up with a hamstring injury, Coleman should get the majority of the touches for the Falcons backfield. Atlanta is going to run the ball a ton tonight, and it’s hard to pass up his pricetag.

Reggie Bush – DraftKings ($3,900), FanDuel ($5,500)

I firmly believe Bush will be a sneaky good play tonight. He’s their third down back, and has explosiveness that Carlos Hyde doesn’t have in the open field. I know he’s older and injury prone, but San Francisco is a bad team that I expect to be playing from behind tonight. Bush should see a lot of snaps, especially late in the game.

Wide Receivers

Julio Jones – DraftKings ($9,300), FanDuel ($9,000)

Jones is another guy that will by owned in almost every lineup, but that’s because he has the upside to put up ridiculous fantasy points every game. He’s at a great price on FanDuel especially, and having value at other positions allows you to fit him in on DraftKings. Add the fact that Roddy White is coming into this game fresh off of elbow surgery, Jones should touch the ball even more.

Charles Johnson - DraftKings ($4,900), FanDuel ($5,600)

Make no mistake about this, Johnson is the primary target for Teddy Bridgewater. They had a great connection, especially at the end of last season, and he’s doesn’t need a ton of receptions to break one to the endzone.

Jordan Matthews - DraftKings ($7,200), FanDuel ($6,800)

The preseason hype for Nelson Agholor seems to have cast a shadow over Matthews coming into this season. He’s still the number one receiver in this offense, and he showed at the end of last season that he’s a PPR monster. I’m starting Matthews with confidence and not looking back. But speaking of Agholor…

Nelson Agholor - DraftKings ($5,700), FanDuel ($5,500)

I don’t like stacking in DFS, but on a short slate it’s hard not to do it. While I don’t think Agholor will be the number one guy, the Eagles offense has such a high volume of plays that he should still produce solid numbers. This is the one receiver I have my doubts about, but Chip Kelly spreads the ball out and should get him involved early.

Tight End

Kyle Rudolph - DraftKings ($3,500), FanDuel ($5,300)

Rudolph is a guy I think is going to have a monster year and it starts with tonight. Remember how I said I believe in Norv Turner’s offense? He has a history of using his tight ends and producing big numbers at the position. Rudolph is a big target, especially in the red zone, and should build on his solid preseason tonight against a bad 49ers defense.

Vernon Davis - DraftKings ($3,100), FanDuel ($5,300)

I want to vomit just writing his name, but Davis is the only other guy I like besides Rudolph. But to be fair, Davis is still the same guy who hauled in 13 touchdowns two seasons ago. He’s only 31, so he’s not that old and washed up and Kaepernick loves to throw to him. It wouldn’t surprise me if he finds the endzone and that would be more than enough fantasy production if he’s in your lineup.

Defense

Minnesota – DraftKings ($2,800), FanDuel ($4,800)

Much like the offense, I am a believer in Minnesota’s defensive system as well. Head Coach Mike Zimmer is a great defensive minded coach, and turned this unit around last season. Their front seven should generate a ton of pass rush against Kaepernick, and having Cordarrelle Patterson return kicks on special teams offers the most upside out of any of these defenses tonight. Any other defense is a crap shoot and this is the only one I’ll be using.

Kicker

Cody Parkey – FanDuel ($5,000)

All of the kickers are basically the same price, but I like Parkey the most because of the offense. He is coming off of an injury, but Chip Kelly said he’s good to go so no worries there.

Here’s my lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings:
