Concerns

Jaelen Strong has a few things he will need to improve at the next level. He tends to rounds off routes, rather than making sharp, decisive cuts in and out of breaks. He can struggle with press coverage. He lacks the ability to create separation on post and 9 routes despite of his impressive 40 yard dash time.

Dennis Digs Deeper

Jaelen Strong will have to win in other ways than off of the line. It is hard to improve on burst off the line at the next level. Players that struggle against college defensive backs and struggle to get off the line tend to struggle in the NFL. It’s going to be twice as hard in the NFL where defenders are bigger, stronger, faster, and know how to fluster a receiver. Had he been in the 2013 class he would’ve been the first wide receiver off the board. Remember Tavon Austin anyone? He will be the victim of yet another deep class at the wide receiver position, much like we saw in 2014.

Kyle’s Instant Evaluation

Jaelen Strong has taken a dramatic shift in many people’s minds. He started in the middle of the top group at wide receivers, in the second or third tiers for most. He then saw an upswing in his projections after a very impressive combine performance. Since then the swing has gone the other way as draft scouts and NFL minds pick him apart. In my mind he has consistently been in the second tier at wide receiver. He isn’t in the Kevin White or Amari Cooper class, but is right there with Dorial Green-Beckham, DeVante Parker and others.

Strong has the ability to make impressive back shoulder catches that demonstrate his fantastic hands and his unbelievable body control in the air. He will be able to produce at the NFL with these incredible skills. While his game speed isnt where it needs to be, he clearly has it. Cleaning up his technique in the NFL may unleash the full ability of Strong.
