Jay Ajayi – Boise State University

Height: 6’0″    Weight: 215

Comp: Steven Jackson

Dennis’ Scouting Notes

Positives

Great acceleration
Nice hands
Experienced in routes
Good vision
A natural split-footed runner
Fantastic footwork
Very good acceleration and burst
Sharp cuts to make defenders miss
Very good leg drive
Nice center of gravity
A tough runner who finishes his runs to get every yard possible
Tons of tenacity
Runs with purpose

Concerns
Not as powerful as his size suggests
Needs to improve between the tackles
Sometimes gets impatient and wants to bounce plays
Lacks top-end speed to round the corner
Ball security
Seems to lose some of his intensity in the second half of games

Kyle’s Instant Evaluation

Jay Ajayi is my favorite back in this class outside of Todd Gurley. He has everything a team would want in a starting running back. He can make tremendous plays in the passing game. He can make runs in multiple systems and should excel at the next level. Ajayi was impressive in his final season at Boise State despite not having the best talent surrounding him. He was able to produce against a strong Ole Miss defense and against Arizona in its bowl game.

most of the time Boise State had a big lead in the second half and Jay was either pulled or was asked to take a dive into a stacked line.
