Daily Fantasy Basketball Playbook – 1/28

Serge Ibaka

At the beginning of the year, I wasn’t such a huge fan of this NBA season. All the focus was on Lebron being back in Cleveland, my Celtics weren’t going to be doing anything and there seemed to be more question marks for the contenders than a clear cut favorite. It just seemed like we were headed for a water down season, I was wrong. Watching the Warriors play has become an event, Kevin Durant continues to put up huge numbers, they’re grinding down in Memphis, and the Hawks have become the biggest headline of the year. To be honest, this season kind of revitalized my love for the game because the narrative isn’t just focused on one player or team like it usually is, there are a lot of great stories all around the country. Now if only we can get the Celtics back on track. Okay anyway, I’ll get to my picks tonight.

Guards:

D.J. Augustin – $6,000

Well this didn’t take me long to think about. Since Brandon Jennings went down last week, Augustin has torn up the stat sheet the past couple of games. He had a 35-point game with 8 assists and 5 3-pointers made on Sunday. Last night, he scored 19 and posted 9 assists. The former Texas PG will start again tonight and will get ample minutes and opportunity to put up similar numbers again. After seeing what he’s done this week, I will gladly take this value.

Zach Lavine – $3,700

Okay this is my reach for tonight. Mo Williams is out which means Lavine will be seeing a huge boost in minutes. He’s also going against a pretty bad defense in the Celtics (maybe this season isn’t so great for me) and does contributes in enough categories to warrant DFS play.

Forwards:

Jared Sullinger – $6,700

With Kelly Olynyk still sidelined and a match up with Minnesota, who isn’t so great defending the inside, this is a juicy match up for Sullinger. The former Buckeye is fresh off a 26-point game with 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Brandon Bass has also been doing work for the Celtics lately but I like Sullinger a bit more.

Serge Ibaka – $7,100

In the past 3 games he has played 36+ minutes, including double-doubles in all of those games. Monday night he even hauled in 19 rebounds so fantasy owners wouldn’t forget what he’s capable of. Ibaka gets the Knicks tonight and in case you’ve been under a rock or you’re a Knicks fan who has been hitting the bottle a lot this season, they’re not that great. I’m expecting another double-double with a couple blocks, couple steals, and a 3-pointer for good measure.

Center:

Al Jefferson – $8,100

Jefferson is back in the line up tonight, after being brought along slowly after his injury. Well Bismack Biyombo just went down, so this kinda changes up the strategy. He gets the Spurs tonight, with not a whole lot of big man help this should be Jefferson’s big game announcing his return.
