Daily Fantasy Basketball Playbook – 1/16

DeMarcus Cousins

One thing that does bother me about daily fantasy basketball is the lack of consistency of games. Personally, I would much rather have a consistent six to eight games a night instead of thirteen one night and three the next. I just never completely understood that logic. But then again, the NBA makes more money than I could ever imagine, so obviously they are doing something right. Anyway, it’s a full lineup tonight which always bodes well for us. All of my prices are according to DraftKings. Good luck and let’s get to it.

Point Guard

Michael Carter-Williams ($8,600) – With the probably absence of Jrue Holiday and with Anthony Davis status up in the air, I cannot see a way to shy away from MCW. He’s one of the cheaper players of the top tier and he’s always a threat to post a triple-double. If I’m paying up for the guard position tonight, it’s going to be for Carter-Williams.

Trey Burke ($5,200) – Burke has been hitting his stride lately and should continue that tonight against the Lakers. I doubt Kobe is playing tonight so the Lakers will be without their best player. Burke should take advantage of that and put up some night fantasy points to hit above value.

C.J. Watson ($4,900) – George Hill has already been ruled out of tonight’s game. We won’t be able to enjoy Watson for too much longer, so fire away on him while you can. The Pistons aren’t a great defensive team either, so I feel pretty confident starting Watson.

Shooting Guard

Tyreke Evans ($7,900) – This is strictly is Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday are out tonight. Evans would be the main offensive threat and could potential drop 40+ fantasy points. Oh, and don’t forget he’s playing the Sixers as well. If Davis and Holiday both sit, play him in every lineup if you can.

Avery Bradley ($4,900) – I know people think I am crazy, but I keep on going back to the well that keeps producing for me. Bradley is a guy I really like and still think he’s undervalued. He’ll be on the court a ton tonight guarding Jimmy Butler and/or Derrick Rose. That means he will get tons of opportunities at the offensive end. And lets face it, it’s not like the Celtics have a lot of scoring anymore anyway. They will lean heavily on Bradley tonight which bodes well in DFS.

Nick Young ($3,900) – I would be a liar if I didn’t admit that I don’t enjoy DFS just a tad bit more when I have Swaggy P in my lineups. If Kobe sits tonight and you are looking for a deep (and I mean DEEP) GPP play, then think about going with Nick Young tonight.

Small Forward

Derrick Williams ($4,300) – I’m only going with Williams if Rudy Gay sits tonight, and it looks like he will be but no official word yet. Last time Williams started, he had 12 points and 10 boards in 36 minutes for the Kings. I’m sure he will be highly owned tonight, but his pricing allows you to pay up for some of the top level guys while still hitting value.

Andrew Wiggins ($6,900) – As long as DraftKings continues to list Wiggins under $7,000, then I will continue to roster him. I said the same thing last week about Draymond Green, and he blew up with a triple-double. I’m not saying Wiggins will do that, but he is underpriced for what he has been doing lately. The Wolves will need him firing on all cylinders tonight against the Suns.

Kevin Durant ($10,700) – Competition brings out the best in great players, and that is exactly what should happen with Durant tonight. The Thunder have lost their mojo it seems, but they will be full throttle tonight against the Warriors. I don’t expect Durant to be limited because they need to start winning some games, and their best chance is with Durant. He’s the only guy at the position I would pay up for tonight.

Power Forward

Ryan Anderson ($5,300) – I like Anderson a lot tonight even if the Pels are at full capacity tonight. But the possibility of not having AD and Holiday helps Anderson almost as much as it helps Tyreke Evans. If you’re looking for a cheap play with a high ceiling, then I would definitely go Anderson if I passed on Evans. I even have no problem rostering both guys tonight against the Sixers.

Jared Sullinger ($6,700) – Much like Avery Bradley, the Celtics will be leaning heavily on Jared Sullinger tonight to play a high volume of minutes. His price tag is a little high, but he should return value with the Celtics being offensively challenged.

Nerlens Noel ($4,900) – I know I’m stacking a lot in this Sixers/Pelicans game, but the pieces have fallen the right way for these guys. Noel may get the start tonight with Robert Covington banged up with a bum shoulder. I don’t think Nerlens is a must start, but I think he makes for a nice GPP play that could very easily return value tonight.

Center

DeMarcus Cousins ($11.300) – I am paying up for the big guys tonight and I have no problem doing so. Cousins is coming off of a monster game, and the Kings will need a similar game from him tonight if Gay doesn’t play tonight. I like Hassan Whiteside, but I got to think that Sacramento goes right at him tonight with Boogie. If I can manage to roster him, I am doing it.

Nikola Vucevic ($8,900) – I know, the two highest price guys at the position tonight, but they’re the two guys that I like the most. The Magic will need a big night out of Vucevic if they want to have any chance of beating the Grizzlies. Plus, I like Vucevic as a contrarian play because most people will be scared away with the matchup. I’m if looking to save some cash from Cousins, then Vucevic is a great option.
