NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 16

NFL Eliminator Challenge

Welcome to week sixteen of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series. Last week our games were much closer than expected, but both the Ravens and Panthers were victorious. With only two more weeks to go and options dwindling let’s try to finish the season strong. Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom.

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

Surprisingly there were no major upsets in division games last week. Many were close contests, but in the end the stronger teams came out on top. That being said, one week of upset free games makes it less likely there will be a similar week following it. Do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Tennessee at Jacksonville
  • Philadelphia at Washington
  • New England at NY Jets
  • Atlanta at New Orleans
  • Detroit at Chicago

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

While I personally didn’t consider it a big upset, the Dallas Cowboys were able to defeat a strong Eagles team on the road on Sunday night. After being embarrassed in prime time against the same team less than a month ago, the Cowboys were determined to get revenge. Our reward? A great prime time matchup! Avoid the below marquee games in week sixteen:

  • Seattle at Arizona
  • Denver at Cincinnati

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

Stop picking the away team! If Buffalo can beat Green Bay then anything can happen on the road. Stay safe and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Baltimore at Houston
  • Green Bay at Tampa Bay
  • Buffalo at Oakland

Step 4 – Make your pick!

There are very few options left as we get this late in the season. However, there is one game where the home team should win, but it could be a risky pick. The Miami Dolphins are falling apart in front of our very eyes, and this week they host a Minnesota team that almost beat a superior Detroit team last Sunday. The stats say that Miami should win this game, but in a game where both teams are only playing for pride, anything can happen. Either way I’m going with the Dolphins who have too much talent on their roster to lose their third game in a row. My pick of the week is:

Miami over Minnesota

Other options I like this week:

Carolina over Cleveland

I don’t know if you saw Johnny football play last week, but if you did that’s all you’ll need to justify this pick. Newton or not, I don’t see Cleveland traveling to Carolina and winning this game with their struggling rookie quarterback.

St. Louis over NY Giants

The only reason I am going with the Rams in this one is because the game is in St. Louis. I expect this to be a close and ugly game, which the Rams should barely win late. I only recommend picking this game if you are really out of options.

Good Luck!
