NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 11

Welcome to week eleven of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series. Last Sunday both Seattle and Baltimore kept our streak going. We now have ten in a row, and we’re not stopping here. Let’s keep the streak going! Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom.

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

While Denver and Arizona easily handled their division opponents last weekend, not all favorites won their division matchups. On Thursday night the Cincinnati Bengals who have been one of the best home teams in the past two years were completely dominated by their rival, the Cleveland Browns. Once again the streak continues of unpredictable division matchups. Do yourself a favor this week and avoid the below division games:

  • Buffalo at Miami
  • Atlanta at Carolina
  • Oakland at San Diego
  • Minnesota at Chicago

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

Some weeks we get to watch exciting and competitive primetime games while other weeks we get what we got in week ten. On Sunday night we got to watch the Green Bay Packers led by Aaron Rodgers just dismantle the Chicago Bears, and on Monday night we saw a similarly dominating performance by the Philadelphia Eagles. This time, the favorites were more than ready for the bright lights, but that doesn’t mean the same thing will happen next time. Avoid the below marquee games this week:

  • New England at Indianapolis
  • Pittsburgh at Tennessee

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets. Who saw that one coming? Big Ben was coming off one of the most dominating two-game spans of any quarterback in the history of the NFL but he struggles against one of the worst passing defenses in the league. I know I was baffled, but thankfully I stayed away from this game, since we all know some teams just don’t travel well, while others become empowered in front of a home crowd. Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Seattle at Kansas City
  • San Francisco at NY Giants

Step 4 – Make your pick!

I’ll be honest, there aren’t a ton of great options this week. I took a strong look at taking Denver on the road over St. Louis, but I’m sticking to my guns about picking away teams after the Pittsburgh game. Instead of going with an away team, I’m going with a little riskier pick. The Washington Redskins have been very disappointing this season, but much less disappointing than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Here’s hoping the bye week worked wonders for RGIII and the Redskins. My pick of the week is:

Washington over Tampa Bay

Other options I like this week:

New Orleans over Cincinnati

New Orleans lost a tough game last week against a good team. This week they won’t make as many mistakes and take control of a Cincinnati team that is going downhill fast.

Denver over St. Louis

I don’t like making this my pick of the week, but I’d be very surprised if Denver doesn’t easily beat St. Louis even with them playing away from the comforts of their home crowd.

Good Luck!
