Adam’s Sneaky Starts Week 8: Chronicles of Theo Riddick

By: Adam Cook (@fantasy_schnerd)

I woke up the other morning to realize it is already week 8 and after this week some team’s regular seasons will be half way over. Depressing isn’t it. Football season just fly’s by and then we will have to wait multiple months to set fantasy rosters again. Depressing isn’t it. Well the regular season weeks are limited, so enjoy them while you can and don’t waste any bad lineup decisions that we are all prone to make. I am feeling really confident in my sneaky starts this week highlighted by Theo Riddick, Travaris Cadet, and Greg Jennings. My start percentages are based off the Yahoo Fantasy Football game and were accounted for on Wednesday evening.

Travaris Cadet- RB- New Orleans Saints (4% Started)

I feel so confident in Cadet’s ability to perform this week that I am even playing him in a lot of my daily fantasy football lineups. The Packers and Saints game on Sunday Night Football is expected to be a shootout as I don’t see any defense being able to stop the opposing offense. Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas have already been ruled out for Sunday leaving Cadet and Mark Ingram to handle the bulk of the snaps. I expect the Saints to be airing it out in “keep pace” or “catch up” mode. Cadet has received at least 5 targets in 3 straight games. When Pierre got hurt last week, Cadet saw an amazing 9 targets! He won’t see many carries, but the passing game is where he will be making some people some money. Start with confidence in PPR settings.

Bold Prediction: 5 carries- 21 yards- 7 receptions- 58 yards- 1 touchdown

Anthony “Boobie” Dixon- RB- Buffalo Bills (8% Started)

I don’t know whether to call him Anthony or Boobie so I will let you decide for yourself which name you would like to anoint him. Bryce Brown is clearly the more talented running back, but I don’t expect him to get a lot of touches after being inactive all season. I’m expecting for Anthony Dixon to receive the Fred Jackson role and for Bryce Brown to fill the C.J. Spiller role. It is clear that the Fred Jackson role is more beneficial to target for fantasy football purposes. After receiving a feature role in the 2nd quarter last week, he received 13 carries and had 4 targets. I’m not expecting a huge yardage game versus a stout Jets run defense, but I do like his chances of finding pay dirt. Plus, Dixon has made it known that he is pumped to be able to prove he can be a feature back.

Bold Prediction: 15 carries- 58 yards- 1 touchdown- 3 receptions- 16 yards

Ryan Tannehill- QB- Miami Dolphins (12% Started)

Tannehill has been very jekyl & hyde this year, but I’m looking for the good Tannehill to show up this week. He has a career high 63.3% completion percentage and a sturdy 2:1 TD/INT ratio. He is hot right now coming off a strong performance at Chicago with 277 yards passing and 2 touchdowns. His sneaky value comes in the running game as the Dolphins are implementing some read option plays. Over the last 3 weeks he has posted rushing totals of: 35, 49, and 48. I’m not going to say he will be the next Cam Newton in the ground game, but 40 yards rushing equals 100 yards passing in most scoring settings. The Jaguars allow the third highest passing yardage per game at 280.1. Top 12 play this week in my opinion.

Bold Prediction: 296 yards passing- 2 touchdowns- 5 carries- 40 yards

Greg Jennings- WR- Minnesota Vikings (10% Started)

I wouldn’t call the Vikings offense a juggernaut by any means, but I would expect them to put up some points versus the Buccaneers defense. Tampa Bay is allowing a league high 294.5 PYPG and are fresh off allowing Joe Flacco to throw for 5 touchdowns in a little over a quarter of play. Greg Jennings is the No.1 wide out in Minnesota, not popular sleeper pick Cordarelle Patterson. He has 6 targets or more over the last 3 weeks. He had an impressive 6 receptions for 77 yards versus a stingy Bills defense.

Bold Prediction: 6 receptions- 72 yards- 1 touchdown

Adam’s Secret Undercover Special

Theo Riddick- RB- Detroit Lions (0% Started)

The latest news leaves Reggie Bush as doubtful leaving Riddick as the lightning back to Joique Bell’s thunder role. I wouldn’t’ play Riddick in standard leagues, but he is a decent flex option in PPR leagues. The last game Reggie Bush missed, Riddick only had 3 carries, but he did have 6 targets. With those targets he produced 5 receptions for 75 yards and 1 touchdown. The Lions will face off against the Atlanta Falcons who are allowing the most points to opposing running backs this year. I look for Riddick to step up in the passing game for a Lions team potentially missing Calvin Johnson and Eric Ebron.

Bold Prediction: 7 carries- 28 yards- 5 receptions- 57 yards- 1 touchdown
