NFL Picks Against the Spread: Week 7, 2014

Cam Newton

Week 7 in my NFL picks against the spread features quarterback battles, division rivalries, and opportunities for teams to bounce back off of disappointing performances. Speaking of disappointing, my week 6 picks were less than ideal. But when things have been going this way, there is no where to go but up.

>Season Total 11-19
>Upset Alert 1-5

Carolina Panthers +7 at Green Bay Packers

The Carolina Panthers have played better the past two weeks. Cam Newton finally looked healthy a week ago and was a huge part of what they did last week, against a good Bengals defense. Assuming he can continue to improve, i expect the Panthers to be able to stay in this game. The Packers were able to win on a late touchdown a week ago in Miami. The Packers are a great offense they can put up points a plenty and their defense remains a question mark. The Packers will win this game but it will be tightly contested.

Detroit Lions +3 at New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a mess this season. The defense lost Jarius Bryd, which hurts an already disappointing defense and now the offense is without Jimmy Graham. The Lions are likely without Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush another week, but they still feel like the right side for this game. The Lions defense has been really strong this season. The offense should be able to do enough with Joique Bell and Golden Tate shouldering the offensive load. The Lions should be able to keep this close and have a shot at the outright win.

San Diego Chargers -4 vs Kansas City Chiefs

This game have made a pretty dramatic move from Chargers -6 to Chargers -4. This feels a bit of an overreaction. The Chargers didn’t play their best a week ago at Oakland and the Raiders played better than many expected, yet the Chargers were able to survive and get a win. The Chargers are home for this match up against the Chiefs, where road teams haven’t fared well. The heat has worn down the visiting team in San Diego this season. The Chargers should win this game and cover pretty easily.

New York Giants +6.5 at Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys come into this game on a high note, after an incredibly impressive performance a week ago beating the Seahawks in Seattle. The Giants on the other hand looked as bad as a team can look a week ago against the Eagles. Despite losing Victor Cruz in that game, i expect the Giants to make it a game on sunday.

**Upset Alert**

Cincinnati Bengals +3 at Indianapolis Colts

The Bengals have had a tough couple of weeks and I have been on the right side going against them against both New England and Carolina, however they are still a really strong team, despite being without A.J. Green. I expect the Bengals front seven to be able to get pressure on Andrew Luck and slow the Colts rush attack. Assuming Mohamed Sanu can do remain impact player for the Bengal offense, the Bengals should be able to enough to not only compete in this game but win outright.
